Kickstarter doesn’t always equal success
"Kickstarter. Prior to Tim Schafer and Double Fine's adventure (pun intended) with the crowd funding website, it wasn't that well known in gaming circles. The site, which launched in 2008, saw Schafer's proposed adventure game garner over $3 million from fans. It's a novel concept, that definitely has a place. When publishers aren't backing developers' particular ideas, "Take it to Kickstarter! The fans will help!". Of course, this is only true for a number of projects. Double Fine's built-in fanbase helped to fund Reds – the game's codename, but that isn't the case for all developers seeking money through the site…"
