"Former Acclaim/Iguana Entertainment employee Ryan Tracy is a very talented 3D modeler and texture artist who was involved in modeling and texturing the environments for all four “Turok” games for the Nintendo 64. This includes Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion, and Turok: Rage Wars. He was willing to share his experiences on working on the Turok series, working with Acclaim/Iguana Entertainment, and working with the Nintendo 64′s hardware. NotEnoughShaders.com would like to personally thank Ryan Tracy for agreeing to do this interview with us.
The Turok series (which sold millions of copies) were the first major games you ever worked on. What were some things you learned about game development from working on the Turok series?
When I started on Turok, I was like “This is the strangest idea for a video game. A native american guy hunting dinosaurs.” I was delighted to be working on the N64 so I didn’t care what the game was, only that this is going to be a fun time. They started me out making rocks and no one had much of an idea how we were going to build terrain in the game as well as other level art. We experimented with many types of ideas. The basic problem was the cart was only 8 megs so building out custom level parts just wasn’t going to happen as it would quickly suck up all the resources.", writes NotEnoughShaders.
After releasing remasters of all three original Turok games, starting with the first two games in 2021 and then Turok 3 in 2023, Nightdive Studios has quietly updated the first Turok game with a native PS5 update.
Beyond the bug fixes and general cleaning-up that comes with most patches these days, the big thing about the PS5 version for the original Turok is that if you have a TV that can support it, you’ll be able to play Turok at 120FPS now.

The Turok series has been languishing without a new title for more than a decade. It's about time we got a reboot.
I'm all for it, I loved the originals... I just don't think, just like w the original Prey, that the main character can survive in this current political climate. Native characters seem untouchable at the moment. I think it can be shown the right respect, but there's always someone getting upset about something these days, they would find a way to cancel it.
Honestly, I would prefer if they just ported/remastered Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion to modern platforms. So we could have access to the "original 3 games". Because I don't see how to really reboot Turok. It's a product of its time being a mixture of platforming/fps and puzzle.
And I really don't see all those elements being preserved on a Reboot.
I would prefer Dino Crisis remake from Capcom. Still, a remade Turok would get my attention.
Forgets about the 2008 reboot*
I'd rather have a sequel to Turok 3, tbh.
We unfortunately do not have enough quality dino games. Theres Horizon but they're robots, and Monster Hunter that I can only think of. I'd like to see Turok make a comeback some day.

Really want a well done nex-gen Turok. Not the piece of crap done with Unreal engine III. Turok 1 and 2 were AWESOME. Still two of my favorite games to this day. CEREBRAL BORE FTW!
