Although Rage offered dated – and arguably boring – gameplay it did offer stunning animation and visuals, serving better as a visual tech demo for id Software’s latest and greatest game engine: id Tech 5. That same engine is being used by the ZeniMax Media-owned developer for their next major project in Doom 4.
According to the developer, the game will be different from its other shooters and more importantly, it will please fans of the franchise. We heard this last year from id Software’s design director Matt Hooper and at QuakeCon 2012 during the keynote, John Carmack provided another little Doom 4 update
"Quake II is a masterpiece; an enduring first-person shooter that shows iD Software at their technical and artistic best."

The story of John Romero, John Carmack, Adrian Carmack, Tom Hall, Jay Wilbur and their legendary company id Software. From Commander Keen to Wolfenstein 3D, from Doom to Quake, they invented the 3D first-person shooter genre, and they transformed PC gaming into a multi-million dollars business.
BLG writes, "Plug in your electric guitars and start shredding; we’re making a list of the DOOM games ranked.
Trying to decide the best DOOM game is like deciding who your favorite child is. You love every one of them, imperfections and all."
better to release it on ps4, show something magical.
Rage featured tremendous AI and fantastically intense combat, those are the only elements from Rage that will be necessarilly important to DOOM 4's development, the stunning visuals are an added bonus. I liked Rage for its combat, performance and fluidity, I am disappointed with id for their incompetence regarding DOOM 4's reveal, why they consistently open QuakeCon with an apology regarding DOOM 4's no show, only to later falsely promise a trailer for the following years show only to repeat that no show is so infuriating...
Hopefully Doom 4 will be a great game cause i'm looking forward to seeing what it will look like since the last Doom was on last gen consoles.
meh.. in coming console port fort the masses.. I expect it to be less of a hardcore game this time around.
The game will be great so long as it's PC-first, then dumbed down so that the consoles can handle it.
Of course, I don't expect the kids hear to know this, but it's been a long time since Carmack said focusing on consoles for Rage was a bad idea. Yet here ye' all are sill complaining about a console port.
All I request is that the game feel like Doom. No CoD shit please, don't give me orders, let me do as I wish, let me go back and forth through maps without invisible walls, please, Rage had too many damn invisible walls.
