Slap AMD.ATI with its 9800 gtx... further more I bet they will intro a elite model on top of that 9800gx2

That may happen, though there are a few things to take into consideration:
1) ATI has always been better at implementing multicard systems - though a single 3870 is slower than a single 8800GT, they are very closely matched in crossfire/SLI setups.

2) the price: ati has marketed their current range of cards (3850 & 3870) very aggressively and they currently offer even better for money than an 8800GT. If this article is correct in it's statement
"AMD expects the Radeon HD 3870 X2 to be priced at $449, which is actually cheaper than a pair of 3870s - making it sort of a bargain high end product"
Then expect a very value-filled product.
