Fox News tries to link Aurora shooting to video games

MyGaming's Jeremy Proome writes: "In the continuing attempt to prove that video games are the source of all violence and evil in the world, Fox News are linking the Aurora, Colorado, shootings to World of Warcraft."

Is it okay if I try to link Fox News to Ignorance as a whole?

Yi-Long3283d ago (Edited 3283d ago )

... they're a joke. A pretty poor sad joke.

With sad employees pretending to be 'journalists', yet it's just ignorant right-wingpropaganda aimed at idiots who can't use common sense.

"Hey, let's not talk about 'gun-control', cause that would be 'insensitive' and 'inapropriate' and 'disrespectful' to the victims. Let's talk about banning costumes and videogames!!! Surely THAT would stop people with mental problems from shooting up innocent people!"

It's just beyond ridiculous, the way these people supposedly think.

lastdual3283d ago (Edited 3283d ago )

Fox is late. CNN was making this link a week ago. But what's really ridiculous is this sensationalist puff piece. Here is the source story:

Its only natural that news outlets are going to publish what James Holmes' psychiatrist, Dr. Lynne Fenton, wrote about him. And the story doesn't actually blame games for anything. It merely mentions that Fenton gave a talk relating WoW to uses of archetypes in psychotherapy, noting that Holmes' played WoW. In other words, Fenton may have used Holmes' playing habits to analyze his behavior.

Sheesh, people see "Fox" and they suddenly lose the ability to think rationally.

TekoIie3283d ago

Yeh but dude..... Tide goes in, tide goes out. YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN THAT!!!!

when one of their reporters thinks "what controls the tides" and the first thing that pops into his head is "GOD" and not "I'll find out with the Internet" you know the reporters are dumb.

MmaFan-Qc3283d ago

will FOX also try to link what Hitler have done with Richard Wagner classical music?

DeadIIIRed3283d ago

DK286K, how about news outlets that focus on facts and actual news instead of editorials and human interest pieces. CNN and Fox are both jokes, but Fox asks for it when they constantly throw the slogan "Fair and Balanced" in their viewers face 24/7.

F**K Fox News. Its ignorant to blame videogames when films have more violence in them. However that being said any sort of entertainment cant be used as a scapegoat. Every individual functions differently. I love violence when its portrayed on screen but that doesn't mean that I'm planning a massive massacre just because I think its cool when I see it in video games or movies. It's a right from wrong decision.

live2play3283d ago

haha look at the pic of the guy
and add the words

it matches perfectly. its like he is saying that to fox news

NewZealander3283d ago

if America didn't make gun access so easy then this kind of thing wouldn't happen half as much, when will America learn guns are deadly weapons, if you are going to hand them out like candy of course you are going to have trouble!

and im sick of people blaming games for there actions, its not like anyone says "oh hes such a nice guy! must be from all that viva pinata!"

TekoIie3283d ago (Edited 3283d ago )

Except if Fox was smart they could blame movies because this guy apparently talks like batman and did so on the phone when he tried to join a gun club.

Fox news has caused deaths btw. Many shootings have happened where people have said "the guy on fox news told me to". Guess we should ban fox news right?

mynameisEvil3283d ago

Let me ask you a question: Do you REALLY think that if the US made gun control really tight that this wouldn't have happened? Of course it would've because people who really want guns to can them. And then what? Then normal people who aren't criminals would have nothing to defend themselves, their property or, most importantly, their family with.

Or were you thinking that EVERY state should have a background check attached to gun sales? Okay, but that wouldn't have prevented the massacre since, aside from a speeding ticket, he had no criminal record.

Oh, and I don't know if you've noticed, but our Constitution claims the right to bear arms. What, like Americans aren't going to buy guns when they can do so without going against the law?

I'm no FOX News lover, but... FOX News didn't "cause deaths". People cause deaths, not a right-wing news network. It's like blaming murders on 50 Shades of Gray. That is to say, it's ridiculous.

VverdugovV3283d ago

"if America didn't make gun access so easy then this kind of thing wouldn't happen half as much"

Norway has strict gun laws and that didn't stop Anders Breivik from killing 77 people. My point is that when some nut wants to kill people he will find a way to do it. Laws won't stop him.

Irishguy953283d ago

VVerdugoz, if this guy had the same weapons as Anders Brevik he would hit alot less people/ Brevik was more intelligent about his psycho attitude/ Better location/more time etc

I'll never understand the US's reluctance to put tighter regulations on guns. You even mention it and people get their backs all up. "You ain't takn ma guuns!" No one is trying to take your guns, but you'd think a little common sense would prevail. Do citizens really need to be able to purchase assault rifles or extended magazines? Is it really a bad idea to make it mandatory to sell guns with a gun lock? Are waiting periods and background checks for everyone potential gun owners such a bad idea? Also, what possible use could you have for armour piercing rounds?

I live in Canada and at almost 40 years of age I have still yet to see a handgun that wasn't holstered to the side of a police officer. I've never known anyone that's owned a handgun and all I've ever seen is rifles out on the farm and yet there's no gun bans to speak of. We have more guns per capita than the US and yet when you look at our homicide by gun rates every year it's usually between 150-200 in a country of 34 million. This isn't meant as a criticism of the US or a "look at how much better it is here" or anything like that. I love the US. I think you guys are great. I just wish the issue wasn't so politicized so you guys could put in some restrictions that just might save a few of your lives.

I just can't imagine living in a place where I was worried about if the other guy across from me is armed half the time. I really can't. I remember one father from the US told me "I question the love a man has for his family if he doesn't have the means to protect them," and all I could think was "Protect them from what? What is it you're living in constant fear of?" I just don't understand and hopefully I never will. I sincerely hope you guys get a handle on it one day.

@ Every1 here

Most guns used for crimes are acquired illegally. If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!

I live pretty close to a little town called Kennesaw. In Kennesaw murder is ridiculously rare. Every house is required by law to have a gun.

Sweeden has insanely low crime rates. Every man in Sweden is trained to use a gun and owns a gun. And it's a freaking automatic weapon! So don't tell me guns are to blame for this! It's people! Stop making excuses for stupid people by trying to take our means of defense against the same weaponry the badguys have!

Burackus3283d ago

And im sick of people blaming guns for there actions, guns dont kill people, people kill people, ive had a gun just about all my life i havnt shot anyone that i know of.

dcbronco3283d ago

I liked what you said about people wanting drugs legalized but guns restricted. The thing is conservatives want the opposite so they believe the same thing. I personally think guns and drugs should be legal. So many Americans are killed by guns because there is something wrong with us. Hate to say it but there is. Like Darkride said, Canada has as many guns but nowhere near the gun crime.

Same for drugs. We consume 50% of the worlds cocaine with 5% of the population. We have terrible problems with alcohol too. Name a vice and we seem to suffer as much or more than anyone else. Amsterdam decriminalized drugs and most of their drug addicts are foreigners. Mostly Americans. There is something about our culture that makes us do the most self destructive things. Part of it may be our huge national ego that doesn't even allow us to acknowledge that we have a problem. Just look at the hypocrisy in our foreign policy.

NewZealander3283d ago

it amazes me how some of you say its your right to own a gun and it should be legal so you have the same things as the bad guys....

here in NZ it is only legal to own a gun for hunting, sure that doesn't mean you arnt going to use it for murder, but its highly regulated, and in suburban areas pretty much nobody owns a gun, the only way America will ever make peace is if it drops all this crazy BS about having to protect yourself, America made the mess its in by giving everyone guns, the bad guys soot the good guys so the good guys buy more guns...its mental

here the police just raid properties that are reported to own firearms, and seize them, and even when there is an armed robbery in NZ the gun is usually just for show and pretty much never gets used, hell most of out shootings are due to idiot hunters shooting people by accident.

no way in hell would i ever feel safe in America!

Hitler was one of the world's biggest mass murderer, and the games he played was chess. And you know what i think, if you are strategic with chess then i think you could be world's worst the world has ever their logic.

Idiots, they should blame the individual involved and not the media he uses, Comics, Music, Films and games have nothing to do with someone becoming a Mass murderer.

Pozzle3283d ago

Is anyone honestly surprised by this?

HarryMasonHerpderp3283d ago

It's become so predictable it just looks like a lazy way to cause controversy.
Thing is though people have wised up to this videogames equal violence fiasco and can think for themselves and have realised these statements from FOX are complete bull.
Even my parents roll their eyes when they hear about these videogames are the cause of mass murder.

Somebody3283d ago

I was surprised to see it took this long for Fox to suggest this "game=violence" link.

KMCROC543283d ago (Edited 3283d ago )

Though this event is very tragic & sad my sympathies to the families, but the Worst part it happen during an election year. meaning the A-hoes at Fox News & politician are going to ride this topic all the way to the polls.
