ComicsBulletin's William T. Carpenter Jr. interviews Jay Pavlina, the mind behind Super Mario Bros. Crossover, about his latest game, Super Retro Squad. Topics of discussion include game design philosophy, Kickstarter, the new recruits of Pavlina's Exploding Rabbit team, and of course Super Retro Squad.
Joanna Mueller writes: "Deciding to build a full game on this concept, Pavlina took to Kickstarter where he raised $53,509 with the help of 1,853 backers. Development on the game didn’t go as planned (we’ve covered it extensively in the past if you’re interested). This lead to many backers demanding refunds as the project continuously changed names, lost team members, and got put on hold."
Serena Nelson "Sometimes a Kickstarter comes around where you can't help but cringe a little every time you get news on its development. And this is certainly the case with Super Action Squad (originally named Super Retro Squad and later changed to Operation Pyxel). As of now, it's being called Super Retro Crossover."
Serena Nelson writes: "This doesn't sit well with me, but at least something is being worked on in exchange for the $53,509 backers put in over three years ago. Which means that something could be coming out eventually. They do plan on releasing it on Steam Early Access when it's ready, so it's something to keep an eye on."
