Kotaku: 2011 was a hell of a year for big game releases. I remember at some point in the fall thinking, "Dude, we are approaching 2007 territory here."

The late 90s was just the golden era for gaming for me, most of my favorite games ever are on the n64 and psx. I only played mgs a year or two ago but I enjoyed it more than any game I've played this gen, maybe more than any game I've ever played period.
yeah PS1 and N64 were the Golden Eras period. i love games and the gaming community. fav/most played on each console: genisis: toe jam and earl gamegear: road rash nintendo: mario super nintendo: super mario bros gameboy: pokemon blue GBAdvanced: pokemon silver PC: Age of EmpiresII PS1:Gran Turismo2 N64: golden eye Dreamcast: sonic adventured. 1998 and 2005 for me were the golden years of Gaming :)
2007 was a pretty great year as well. Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Metroid Prime 3, Rock Band, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Crysis, COD4 & Uncharted Drakes Fortune.
Very good year.
What made 2007 so great waas that many of those games were new IPs, like Bioshock, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Portal, Crysis, and Uncharted.
playing cod4 was almost like playing a new ip it was just awesome at the time. there was not many modern shooters out there at the time. it was all ww2
Even last year was freaking awesome. It's so hard to pick a "best" year.
2011 gave it a run for its money
It is hard to pick a year. 2001 had GTA III, Ico, Jak & Daxter, Halo, Max Payne, THPS 3(the best in the series), Devil May Cry, MGS 2, Conkers Bad Fur Day, Super Smash Bros., Twisted Metal Black. One of my favorite years. Edit: Forgot Final Fantasy X.
Years from 96-2000 were among the best in video games history, and I think 98 was the best ever. I am an older gamer and I've seen it all !!
It's mostly Nostalgia.
1998 was by far The Ultimate Year for gamers & for me personally & the reason is those games: 1)Xenogears 2)Suikoden II 3)Breath ofe Fire III 4)Metal Gear Solid 5)Resident Evil 2 6)Gran Turismo 7)TEKKEN 3 8)StarCraft 9)Soulcalibur (Arcade)
for me it's 2005: GOW SOTC Hitman Blood money MGS3:subsistence DMC 3 RE 4
I loved all PS1 gen of games, sooo much more went into the games to make them new and different.
