Wii U power will not be far behind Xbox 720 says Nintendo

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has insisted that he Wii U will not be far behind that Xbox 720 in terms of power, as he also admits that the demand for the 3DS in the West remains 'weak'.

Is this good news for Nintendo or bad news for MS?

sly-Famous4307d ago

Why, They effectivley admitted that the wii-u will in fact be weaker than the Xbox 8.

Wizziokid4307d ago

Isn't that a given since
A] Nintendo don't aim for best hardware

B] The NextBox will be a newer console and probably more expensive due to better hardware.

Personally I'll be buying a Wii U and PS4, I'll hold out on the NextBox to see how focused on Kinect it will be

Pushagree4307d ago

Wii-U is a current gen console playing current gen games., There is no way it will be anywhere near a next gen console.

metroid324307d ago

No he is basing it off the wiiu graphics and RAM if 720 had a HD6670 it would be weaker in graphics but it might have a more powerful cpu of higher clock rates this makes it more powerful not more capable in terms of graphics.

Plus its official now the wiiu will be a beast in the graphics department as the official specs suggest plus these specs are not final as the wiiu is even more powerful than what we learn in that spec sheet its called not showing all your cards until as late as possible more chance of 720/ps4 already having confirmed gpu's by then.

But the wiiu has a HD6770 and that baby does 1.34 terraflops and runs at 900mhz,plus it does DX11 wow.

greenpowerz4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

It's clear MS and nintendo know a little about the other guy's hardware due to the hardware market (chip companies etc, possibly sharing the same chip company) this back and forth started by nintendo is obviously damage control from Nintendo(next gen mind/marketshare fears as well. The Xbox 720 has
to be and will be extremely powerful because it is a next gen mutli media hub that runs pc-like operating system and it uses a new kinect and more. I think the 720 will be Much more powerful than people think in the pro world. MS is milking the 360 keeping the price high an charging for online still to take the financial hit out of the gate.

victorGma214307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

I believe this won't be a problem for Microsoft or Nintendo. Microsoft already has a huge fanbase just like Sony, and Nintendo will be able to compete against the next generation consoles now (not with the same graphics, but at least it won't be a Wii x PS3/x360 situation).

That's what they said:
-THQ: “WiiU is just alot more powerful than current HD consoles it does 1080p very easy.”
-Epic: “It will do things current HD consoles simply cant do its going to be a powerful box.”
-Crytek: “WiiU devkits are very powerful, the specs are very good”
-Vigil Games: “We had the game at the same level as high end pc version in a matter of days and a few lines of code got the game up and running on tablet in 5 mins.”
-EA: "Wii U is not a transitional platform, it is a true next generation system."
-Gearbox: "”(That’s) one thing I can’t talk about. Actually nailing the specs, they haven’t come out with them yet. (The Wii U version of Aliens will) “be better” (than the PS3 and Xbox 360 version in terms of visuals because of) “more modern tech.”"

Ashunderfire864307d ago

Yeah but confirmed to be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, so that is go news!!! I knew its true!!! Even GearBox has mention that the Wii U is more powerful than 360/PS3. You know what I really think? I think that all competitors know each others specs from inside knowledge. It was funny when 360 was first announced, the PS3, then the Wii was announced, and they are not that different from each other in terms of specs.

sikbeta4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

@The Meerkat

How's that? MS specs are not set in stone, screw it, the console wasn't even announced... we don't know anything yet, not even Wii-U specs...

ChickeyCantor4307d ago

" Nintendo don't aim for best hardware "

Neither did MS or Sony.
Their graphics card were pretty much outdated the moment they were out.

Sono4214307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

I'm with Wizzio but i'm also holding back on buying the next Xbox to see if they're still stupid/greedy enough to make you still have to pay to play online. Which in my opinion is BS that should have never been tolerated by the consumer in the first place.

Winter47th4306d ago

How the hell could they say it won't be far behind when the 720 specs haven't been announced in the first place..

BlmThug4307d ago

What people must understand is this guy is just guessing, he certainly does not know the specs of the next box.

iamnsuperman4306d ago

well said. He has no idea what the next xbox system will be like. He is assuming the leap to the next generation will be the same as what he/Nintendo predicts it will be. Microsoft only knows what Microsoft thinks the next generation will be like.

ConstipatedGorilla4306d ago

I suspect Wii U and 720 will be not far apart in terms of specs. I have a feeling that PS4 will be considerably more powerful than both though. I'm only basing this on the belief that PS4 won't be bundled with a wonky peripheral.

VanillaBear4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

Oh I didn't know Iwata has seen the Nextbox...oh...wait....unless this is wishfull thinking on his part, AGAIN.

Fishy Fingers4307d ago

"Other companies might launch a next-generation console with more power, but we don’t necessarily think that the difference between the Wii U and such console will be as drastic as what you felt it was between the Wii and the other consoles because there will be fewer and fewer differentiators in graphics"

Bit less dramatic when you read more than the headlines eh.

I've literally read 10 or more "articles" based of the same source interview, each with a more desperate headline than the last.

MrMister4307d ago

look how all the butt-hurt nintendo fanboys disliked your comment, even though it was a fair comment. They keep hoping the wii u will stay relevent to the next gen more than a year or two, which is unlikely once the next consoles come out. Fact.

Sono4214307d ago

oh there's VanillaBear, it just wouldn't feel like a complete Nintendo flame article without you here :)

VanillaBear4307d ago

Awwww look who it is, it's the Nintendo Fanboy....Nintendos very own Superman.

You have a cheek to call people out who have a negative post on these articles even though most of them are their opinions typed out in a non trollish/immatue way and then you bash them for it

You just come off as a massive Nintendo fanboy...this works both ways. Nearly evert article there you are defending them bashing peoples opinions like a typical fanboy.

Sad...does peoples opinions offend you that much lol

Don't worry everything is going to be ok, just take deep breathes :)

mike1up4306d ago (Edited 4306d ago )

Agreed.

It's ironic that he calls you Superman. VanillaBear is like the troll Batman on this site.

Every Nintendo Flame Article is like the Bat Signal for this guy. Thank goodness he only has 2 bubbles in his troll utility belt.

Alos884307d ago

And he is basing this on what exactly?

Jadedz4307d ago

PS360 >>>>>> Wii.

The Wii U big "step up" from Nintendo (regarding their Wii console).

live2play4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

and what are you basing the xbox720 being way more powerful and a HUGE DRASTIC difference in power from the the 720 to the 360?

exactly you can just assume and guesstimate

im not saying the 720 WONT be more powerful because it WILL be.

but the not the difference we saw when comaparing a wii game to a 360 game

Mikhail4307d ago

Defending the Wii U Specs would be easy if he announced the specs.

PopRocks3594306d ago

To be fair we know some details of the specs. We just don't know some of the finer details; the specifics essentially. For example the CPU is POWER7 based, which already eclipses the 360/PS3 specs.

If the specs hold up on the rest of the system then while it will probably be weaker than the upcoming consoles, the gap probably won't be as large as most assume.

DivineAssault 4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

Watch! all of a sudden Nintendo fans will begin to talk about things that have been going on for a whole generation.. like power, M rated games, etc.. Before none of those things mattered to them but now that Wii U is (RUMORED) to have a bit of power in it, they will pretend all that power isnt being used in the games.. Like launch titles & launch window games... i mean come on! i bet u see a difference in sony/microsoft systems right away out the box when they launch but with wii u, its going to be in stasis not being used for some odd reason lol

Also, microsoft was bad mouthing wii u by saying it was similar to xbox! that seems like an insult to me.. If "N" thinks that wii u will be as capable as next gen systems (he was wrong before) then i wana see what theyre going to do with the network.. ONLINE will be a key factor nextgen & mii plaza is no PSN or XBL.. Plus if cloud gaming comes, "N" cant do anything to compete with high end PC 3rd party games.. Devs only need to make ONE build & stream it.. why would they invest time & resources into a system with no return? Nothing M rated from 3rd party sells on "N" systems

Fishy Fingers4307d ago

Ignoring your initial rant, why wouldn't Nintendo be able to support (the instantly popular for some reason) cloud gaming. If my mobile phone can do it, I'm pretty sure the WiiU could, be that through a 3rd party or system set up by Nintendo.

The whole point of cloud gaming is the client doesn't require any fancy hardware.

DivineAssault 4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

really?!?! so u think onlive will partner up with nintendo huh?

U think nintendo wii u will get game streaming when they can barely get 3rd party support? HA! i would love to see it

Fishy Fingers4307d ago (Edited 4307d ago )

Yes, read my comment, I clearly say Nintendo will partner up with OnLive.

Says it right there in my comment look... Also notice my paragraph on 3rd party support. A real eye opener huh.

My point, and only point, was technically there is no reason Nintendo couldn't introduce, support or initiate a Cloud based service onto the WiiU. I thought my point was pretty simple, obviously not for yourself.

We don't want another RTX 4080, but this lesser-known brand is releasing one anyway

Even though the Super is out, this Chinese brand is releasing a base RTX 4080 - and it comes with AIO liquid cooling and a striking design.
