Wii U power will not be far behind Xbox 720 says Nintendo

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has insisted that he Wii U will not be far behind that Xbox 720 in terms of power, as he also admits that the demand for the 3DS in the West remains 'weak'.

No he is basing it off the wiiu graphics and RAM if 720 had a HD6670 it would be weaker in graphics but it might have a more powerful cpu of higher clock rates this makes it more powerful not more capable in terms of graphics.

Plus its official now the wiiu will be a beast in the graphics department as the official specs suggest plus these specs are not final as the wiiu is even more powerful than what we learn in that spec sheet its called not showing all your cards until as late as possible more chance of 720/ps4 already having confirmed gpu's by then.

But the wiiu has a HD6770 and that baby does 1.34 terraflops and runs at 900mhz,plus it does DX11 wow.

It's clear MS and nintendo know a little about the other guy's hardware due to the hardware market (chip companies etc, possibly sharing the same chip company) this back and forth started by nintendo is obviously damage control from Nintendo(next gen mind/marketshare fears as well. The Xbox 720 has
to be and will be extremely powerful because it is a next gen mutli media hub that runs pc-like operating system and it uses a new kinect and more. I think the 720 will be Much more powerful than people think in the pro world. MS is milking the 360 keeping the price high an charging for online still to take the financial hit out of the gate.

I believe this won't be a problem for Microsoft or Nintendo. Microsoft already has a huge fanbase just like Sony, and Nintendo will be able to compete against the next generation consoles now (not with the same graphics, but at least it won't be a Wii x PS3/x360 situation).

Yeah but confirmed to be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, so that is go news!!! I knew its true!!! Even GearBox has mention that the Wii U is more powerful than 360/PS3. You know what I really think? I think that all competitors know each others specs from inside knowledge. It was funny when 360 was first announced, the PS3, then the Wii was announced, and they are not that different from each other in terms of specs.

I suspect Wii U and 720 will be not far apart in terms of specs. I have a feeling that PS4 will be considerably more powerful than both though. I'm only basing this on the belief that PS4 won't be bundled with a wonky peripheral.

To be fair we know some details of the specs. We just don't know some of the finer details; the specifics essentially. For example the CPU is POWER7 based, which already eclipses the 360/PS3 specs.

If the specs hold up on the rest of the system then while it will probably be weaker than the upcoming consoles, the gap probably won't be as large as most assume.

Ignoring your initial rant, why wouldn't Nintendo be able to support (the instantly popular for some reason) cloud gaming. If my mobile phone can do it, I'm pretty sure the WiiU could, be that through a 3rd party or system set up by Nintendo.

The whole point of cloud gaming is the client doesn't require any fancy hardware.

There's no way that Nintendo is going to launch a console with dramatic specs and keep it affordable.. Look at the 500 million alone it cost sony to co-develop the cell processor that helped them win the graphics war but they were selling consoles for a loss at $599... Nintendo would die fast if they launched an expensive console..

They can launch a console with pretty decent specs like this at lower cost because over time technology gets cheaper. The specs for the WiiU will be good but no where near a crazy high end pc. The same is true of the ps4/720, you want to see amazing next gen graphics, go buy a $600 gaming pc and it will surpass the 360 and ps3 by a mile.

even if the ps4 had DX12 comparable graphics the wiiu with its DX11 comparable graphics will get the same games.

ZERO difference in graphics end of look at Dirt2 on high settings then on ultra its not a huge leap end of,plus they could always get the same graphics and frame rates on wiiu no matter what by just doing native 720p instead of Full HD on some games but them games will be when we have had the 3 new consoles on the market for ages think 5/6 years down the line you will start to see the odd game on wiiu and 720 get a lesser resolution just so the graphics are the same as PS4 thats my take on it.

But by the time that happens Nintendo will have a new system on the way a few years later as i think wiiu will be a 8 year console going off what they did with DX9 consoles ?

Ummm, duh... The standard resolution is 1080p and unless that changes all games will look the same, some will just have more particle effect, flasher bloom, etc... It doesn't matter because what will be the determining factor is the games for once not graphics! The fact that Nintendo games will finally be Hi-def is great. Ubisoft says the WiiU has HD6770 and does DX11/Compute shaders and guess what its all confirmed as the real specs from the dev kit that was second to very last so things are a little better then the already confirmed specs END OF google it FANBOYS and WEEP the truth is there in black and white.
