From “Joanie Loves Chachi” to “The Cleveland Show,” spin-offs have always been a precarious proposition. Sure, they can tug at the heart strings of a series’ fans, but more often than not, they just don’t capture the same feeling the originals had.
Pokemon Conquest is perhaps the most bizarre spin-off the Pokemon series has seen. The Mystery Dungeon, Ranger and PokePark series are obviously geared more toward children and capitalizing on the appeal Pikachu has with kids, and the core Pokemon titles have a complexity that appeals to older audiences as well as the young.
Tecmo Koei’s Pokemon Conquest is a game that fits somewhere loosely in the middle.
