Top 10 Plot Twists in Video Games

BT writes: There are innumerable strong stories throughout the history of video gaming. From the complicated intrigue of a properly set-up RPG to the simple, yet strikingly well-done storytelling of the Half-Life games, there are a great many interesting tales to play out. While many techniques exist to improve these stories, one of the most memorable and prevalent ones is the plot twist. Taking a moment to reveal a shocking truth and turning a story on its head in that instant can leave a profound impact on the player that is unlikely to disappear anytime quickly. In order to celebrate the strongest impacts the gaming world can offer, we’ll be counting down the top 10 plot twists in gaming. Yes, I did say we. As I feel it would be inadequate to simply offer my singular opinion on such an important part of gaming narrative, my fellow contributor Gabriel B. will be joining me to describe why these moments work so well.

That twist in mgs really got me, because I played Peace Walker before mgs 1. So I started the game and was like "oh awesome! Miller is in this game!" And then it turns out he'd been dead since before the game started. Shocked me.

Mgs series is full of awesome twists.

f**k yeah, Baten Kaitos! Thought I was the only one who played that. Had to take what you could get as a GameCube child and that one gets over-shadowed by Tales of Symphonia quite often as one of the few great GameCube RPGs. Check it out sometime if you have a Wii and on the off-chance you haven't already, don't spoil that great plot twist by reading the entry.

Both Baten Kaitos games are great. I really liked the card system they had in place. I spent so many hours fine tuning the card deck to get it absolutely perfect.

Bioshock had one of the best plot twists I've seen. I dunno why, it just blew me away!

I loved the 343 Guilty Spark level in halo. At this point in the game Cpt. Keyes and the marines have gone searching for the "weapon", but something goes wrong and you have no idea what until halfway through the level when you are first presented with the flood.

I wish more games had complete surprise moments like this, There was no mention of them anywhere on the box art or manual. Now it would be near impossible due to the internet, but the sense of unknown and surprise is something iv'e not been able to match since.

God damn technological advances.

For Konami to release the numbers i assume it means it's a success. They better let bloober team make more silent hill remakes or a new silent hill.

Still need to buy it. Want to buy new, physical, but can't really justify it right now.
