Halo, Red Dead Redemption, and other modern games given a retro makeover (gallery)

What if the popular shooter Halo was made a decade earlier? What if Nintendo decided to make a fighting game featuring its stable of characters a console generation earlier than it did with 1999′s Super Smash Bros.? What if the role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII looked more like Final Fantasy VI? Well, they’d all probably be a lot more pixelated, but (as the gallery below shows) they’d still look awfully fun.

I'm just glad someone titled them all for us. I wouldn't have gotten Red Dead Redemption.

looked spot on to the capcom arcade game "gun smoke".

I can dig all of these. I wish they were real as they would be just great fun to play. The halo meets contra...I thought that when i saw the killzone shot at first.

It looked more contra-ish than the halo one.

The Gunsmoke reference is especially awesome - because Red Dead was originally a Capcom franchise that Rockstar took over.

Batman, MGS4, SSBM and Pikmin looked like they'd still be amazing in retro form

KidBroSweets24411d ago

It's funny cause that's one of the couple I actually guessed right lol. Really cool gallery though. Thumbs up

Yeah, it was a fun read, but the pics are too damn small.

I really want to play SSBB and LittleBigPlanet in that style. Looks awesome.

M_Prime4407d ago

it took me a second to realize SSBB was done SNES style lol.

Kurt Russell4411d ago

I want Halo on my gameboy colour :(

Sidewinder-4411d ago (Edited 4411d ago )

Cool stuff.

The Brutal Legend one made me laugh ;)

FinaLXiii4411d ago

wow Brutal Legend actually would kickass with that 2D style the 3D makes it look goofy.

MrChow6664411d ago (Edited 4411d ago )

I would definitely play most of them

Games That Took An Absolutely Bizzare Turn In Their Narrative

Some titles out there focus on introducing a bizarre turn in their narrative. Check out this list for some solid recommendations for those.

"INSIDE" was bloody amazing, and I miss Uncharted's sci-fi and paranormal aspects greatly.

TricksterArrow24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

TBH, 3 and 4 still have them, but they are heavily implied, which can be terrifying the more you think about it, but it is admittedly, much less scary and less interesting gameplay-wise than what 1 and 2 have done.

Inverno24d ago

U3 did show the Jinn's "bottle" in the end and the city was pretty f-ing dope. Just a little disappointing that they didn't lean just a bit more on the mythical parts of the series. Uncharted is a world rooted in reality and Drake knowing all these mythical stuff exists could've led into something cool.

I remember being particularly confused by the twist in LA Noire where Cole Phelps is sort of "exposed". If you've played it you know what I'm talking about. It always felt weird and odd because the player is Cole Phelps. How can the player not know about these sorts of things happening with their own character? I felt like it came out of nowhere.

Soma, Doki Doki Literature Club, Saya no Uta

UnbreakableAlex24d ago

Is Twelve Minutes on that list? Because IT HAS TO BE ON THAT LIST!
Don’t spoiler yourself with that humongous twist :D

Rockstar Games had considered making Red Dead Redemption and GTA movies at one point, but had ultimately dropped the idea.

Both would make more sense as a series than as movies, though I think Red Dead would be far easier to adapt.

DarXyde27d ago

RDR would be a great movie. If they allowed Martin Scorsese to work on it, I think it would be outstanding.

MajorLazer27d ago

RDR would work really well. From the GTA universe, IV would work really well because of how gritty and realistic the story is.
