Rumour: Did Nintendo ‘Hold Back’ Games at E3?

If all is to be believed, then Nintendo held back two “major” Wii U games at E3 this year.

To be honest e3 was Nintendo's chance to sell me the idea of the the Wii u, I left empty handed :-( I wanted to be blown away and I wasn't, they still could but it's looking doubtful.

Right the biggest gaming conference of the year to try and show your product off to, people other than the overzealous nintendo fans is useless. Funny it seems to work just fine for ms and sony.

Copying nintendo, just like the wii u's truly original design for it's classic controller, i forgot nintendo never copies anything. At least that is the mindset of your typical nintendo fanboy on n4g.

And if you get excited about the tablet controller for use as a inventory screen or a map, we have had the start and select buttons for 27+ yrs now. Wow truly revolutionary.

Would make sense as it was a little disappointing , if it's true I guess they did not want to play all their cards at once. Also there are much more open conventions , E3 is pretty locked down and merely marketing hype , I'm sure the meat of the Wii U will be shown towards it's release to promote Christmas Sales.

my god this is annoying, they showed off a bunch of great games and actually showed what their system was capable of without the tech demos. Yeah they could have announced the price because that is now the only thing holding me back from choosing to buy it or not. Common they showed games straight through, not wonder book or usher. Never liked the wii, stuck with playstation and xbox this gen but Nin has me almost sold on the WiiU

All they did was show multiplats, a Mario that looks almost the same as the last one and a zombie game that looks far from next gen or special, I'm sorry but they needed to show mores, I'm still intrigued, but defiantly not as excited as I was before e3

They showed 2 third party exclusives like ZombiU and Rayman Legends + 3 first party exclusives (New Super mario Bros U and Pikmin 3 looks good) and they also showed some other multiplatform games.

The only indication that I saw that the Wii U looked on a par with the current gen is that one image of Batman Arkham City where the exploding tower with banners looked marginally better in the Wii U version than the PS3 version.

All the Nintendo first party games looked like upscaled Wii games. (Apart from Pikmin 3 - some of the textures were nice - although it was only running at 720p 30fps)

Come on Nintendo. I have the money, but you need to work for it!

Power 7 is already confirmed as the WiiU's processor and it's much faster than PS3 or x360's processor.

Are you sure you want to use UNFINISHED LAUNCH GAMES to make judgments/comparisons about the WiiU's final power?

So what you're trying to tell me is:

Nintendo demoed a load of Nintendo First Party games that AREN'T representative of what they're going to launch with?

So Wii Fit U, Mario Bros U and Pikmin are all suddenly going to jump from 720p to 1080p, increase to 60 frames per second, the lighting is going to improve and all the textures?

Explain to me why Nintendo thought it would be a good idea to demo first party games that looked like total A$$.

Surely that's a stupid thing to do, because the only thing showing us sh1tty looking games is going to do is put us off buying a Wii U.

Showing games that look way way way worse than current gen is not a good plan in my eyes.
Doesn't really make me want to buy one.

For comparison look at Resistance: Fall of Man launch trailers on PS3 and compare to PS2 games.

There is no need for them to spend extra money with launch games. They need to release some games quickly to give options for consumers. They will be able to explore the system and give more graphics for your ego later.

And resistance looks like crap, even games on the xbox1 looks better than this.

And you can forget ALL I said, because all you need to put in your delicate brain is:
-Gearbox ALREADY said the Aliens WiiU game will look graphically better because it's a superior hardware.
-Power7 is ALREADY a superior processor
-You are using UNFINISHED LAUNCH games to determine the system's power.
-They already said there will be things like AA before launch. With all this info (which is not speculation like what you are doing)

Why in hell do you prefer to use your damn speculation if you already have info enough to know the system is superior but it's not being explored yet?

Please, explain me your logic. It seems to me you are just trying to downplay the system but you ALREADY know it's superior because as I said before, you already have true sources/info (Gearbox, Power7 etc)

Lets face it, guys. E3 is not the show it was say 2-4 years ago. A lot more games are revealed at separate conferences now, like TGS or a game-company-specific show like Nintendo Direct.

Also even though they might be holding games back, (Like Retro's game that was pulled during E3), Nintendo still has one of the best launch titles in history. I've said this I think 3 other times but it's true.

I pretty sure by late September/early October that more games will either be hinted at or full on revealed. Give it time and the patient will be rewarded...

OH CRAP. I just realized something... I have to save up movey for the 3DS XL, the Vita, AND the Wii U. My wallet will be crucified in a month or 2 XD

Its simple really! Sony fans aren't buying Nintendo anything so why comment? I love Nintendo, but I am not buying into this rumor. It just doesn't make any sense to me. We all know that Retro is working on something... but it's just not ready yet. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? There is no conspiracy! If Nintendo could have showed a Retro Studios' game at E3, then they would have. Wth not?

As for the "mystery key franchise", I just don't get it. How does announcing a key franchise take away from the WiiU? Nintendo announced 3DS games the day after the conference! Gimme a break already.

Bottom line, for the WiiU, what you see is what you get (for now). Iwata, and Reggie, announced the launch window and games... and they are solid. I don't like how people try to get everyone's hopes up with BS, and then blame Nintendo when it doesn't happen.
