EA Doesn’t Want to ‘P*ss Off' Dead Space 3 Fans. Is That Unavoidable?

Co-op looks to be a defining feature of 'Dead Space 3' when the game releases this February. But can EA balance their push for mainstream accessibility with the series' reputation among fans?

So they make a game nobody asked for, i didnt want a co-op Dead Space, theres less fear when theres more than one of you

They should of made a completely different Dead Space, same mechanics, same gameplay, different protagonist, different situations, otherwise were gonna end up with the same game weve already played

Thats why i didnt like DS2, too much of the same "oh no, a dark tunnel, let me guess, a pipe is going to burst out some steam, a shadow is going to run past"

I LOVED Dead Space, i use to play it on Friday night, around midnight (when i KNEW the kids/missis would be in bed) id plug my awesome headphones into the TV, id get PROPER stoned and play Dead Space for a couple of hours, i really enjoyed myself

TOTALLY different experience with the second game

same here and proper stoned indeed lol

Dead Space 3 = gears of war clone...

Sucks because I have gears of war already, I don't want a clone of it lol.

JaredH4747d ago (Edited 4747d ago )

People who say it's a Gears clone only heard what's in it or only watched the gameplay from EAs conference. You can't use cover unless there's human enemies shooting at you. It kicks in by itself. There's no cover button. You can play the game without coop and you won't even feel a hint of coop present since the game has different cutscenes/dialog for both single player and coop.

The people who are marketing this game should be fired since there's so many misconceptions about it.

@GribbleGrunger: When you turn into a stone.

On topic: I don't think Dead Space 2 was bad, I enjoyed it a lot. I have low expectations for Dead Space 3 and I have a feeling we're gonna get a Resident Evil 5 but I hope im wrong..

Campy da Camper4747d ago

Agree with Hells. I played the first one with my headphones on and late at night. The 2nd was OK but near the middle I was just rushing through to hurry up and beat it.

Coop has no place in Dead Space UNLESS it is not split screen AND you do not play next to each other. If one person is on one side of the ship (or map, whatever) and you are on the other and you have to find each other then I could see it. You could talk to your friend but you would be all alone and it would almost be more scary hearing weird noises and knowing your pal is not there to help you.

Then take note. If you aren't playing in co-op the story will not include second player at all. Not in AI, not in cut-scenes, nowhere. He doesn't exist unless you're playing it in co-op.

JaredH4747d ago

He actually does exist but only in story segments where he has to. The same way characters were in past Dead Space games. The gametrailers gameplay shows this.

Lord_Sloth4747d ago

@ JaredH
My basic point still stands but thank you for informing me.

He isn't with you every step of the way unless you're actually in 2 player mode so you don't have to worry about not being alone in this game.

Co-op in dead space 3 is an multi player option only. There is no AI character following you if you play single player!

Too late, more than enough fans are pissed off

Kyosuke_Sanada4747d ago (Edited 4747d ago )

A game in development that already pisses of fans and wants at least five million in sales.....sounds mighty familiar....

Metal Gear Rising Reveangance? The new splinter cell? The list goes on for ruined franchises, which were stupidified to cater to the ever growing bane known as the "here today, gone tomorrow" casual crowd; and the easily bored average 13 year old COD/Gears player. Our favorite franchises are all starting to look like the same damn dumb@ss game over & over. SMH -_-

ShaunCameron4747d ago

@ MistaDozie

What's so dumbed-down about Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? Kojima WANTED it to be a hack-&-slash action game with Raiden as the main character. He was the one who sought PlatinumGames because he ran out of ideas to go further and thought they were best-suited to make it come to fruition. Plus there's nothing casual-friendly about it.

dirthurts4747d ago

I wonder if these guys have ever thought about actually asking the FANS what they wanted?
I feel like they walked into a COD convention and started handing out surveys.

GuyThatPlaysGames4747d ago

CoD has nothing to do with DS3 so don't even bring it up.

SeekDev4747d ago

What he's getting at is that EA is making Dead Space into a more action oriented game. CoD is a great example for action. We're just joking around though, not making fun of CoD, making fun of EA instead (as seen in my comment below).

dirthurts4747d ago

Ovox, you totally missed the point. SeekDev pretty much had it.
I was make a subtle statement comparing the evolution of Dead Space to the Evolution of COD.
It's becoming scripted, and run and gun action. Less emphasis on an actual engaging or interesting story and more emphasis on things going boom.
It's being watered down for the sake of the masses. EA realizes this, and they realize this is what's making money these days.

SeekDev4747d ago

EA at CoD convention, "Would you guys play an action game with guns?"

"Yeah.. why not?"

EA execs at board meeting, "They said they want Call of Dead Space."

MacDonagh4747d ago

Sometimes while fans want a game to be faithful to the original; they ask for things that sound like a good idea but ultimately falls flat.

Co-op sounds like a great idea in a game because it's always fun to play with your friends. However, as a mechanic, it doesn't seem cohesive to have it in a survival-horror game unless it has a similar premise to Left 4 Dead where being co-operative is an essential part of enjoying the full experience. Nor does it work with RPGs like Mass Effect 3 because the first games were purely single-player experiences that didn't require or need a multi-player element.

EA Cuts Around 300 Roles, Including Roughly 100 at Respawn

In addition to the roughly 100 job cuts IGN reported earlier today at Respawn Entertainment, EA has made wider cuts across its organization today, impacting around 300 individuals total including those already reported at Respawn.

Absolutely insane. Man I'm hope they land on their feet EA needs to get the shit together badly....

This is why this industry has slow releases and none compelling games.

127maXimus46d ago

Why would anyone willingly work in the VG industry or specifically for one of these globocorp organizations that put you in constant fear of losing your livelihood based on terrible choices made by idiotic management, not the people with talent making the actual games?
