Super Hang-On Review | Diehard GameFAN

DHGF: For five bucks you are getting an arcade perfect game, or as close to one as you can get without the motorcycle. You have the equivalent of a dip switch built in, the ability to rank yourself against other gamers and a tight little game that takes up little to no room on your hard drive (Only 69 MB!) and that you can play for only as few minutes or several hours, depending on what your schedule permits. Super Hang-On is one of the best games in Sega’s Virtual Collection/Sega Ages releases and is still one of the best racing games ever. At only five bucks, any Sega fan, retrogamer, racing fan or curious party should be downloading this and playing the hell out of it. It’s been a long time since Super Hang-On saw a console release and not only is this the best ever, the long time away without constant ports and compilation inclusions make the gamer feel all the more special. Hint hint Sega.

30 Years of Yu Suzuki’s Hang-On

David Tierney writes: "One clear cut age line on the wrinkly face of the arcade motorbike game Hang-On is that it, along with its sister F1 racer Super Monaco GP, advertised cigarettes. That’s right, glimpses of your favourite lung-destroying foes such as John Player Special and “Marbor” (an obvious parody of Marlboro) could be spotted while you were zooming by. Oh, the cravings! Funnily enough, this didn’t shock me as much as the fact that Hang-On originally came out 30 years ago. The first time I played it was through its 1989 sequel Super Hang-On, and that was a title relegated to a multi-game cartridge that was bundled with my Sega Mega Drive."

Revenge of Shinobi is awesome. You need to sit down and figure it out. Altered Beast? Where do you get that comparison? Nothing alike besides the scrolling. Road Rash 2 and 3 were the peak of that series. The PS1/Saturn games were mediocre. The N64 Road Rash was decent but that was about it.

Spend more time with them games before cutting off their heads. Also do yourself a favor and pick up Streets of Rage 2 and crank it through a stereo with the front headphone stereo jack. It still sounds killer.

I used to love the first two Streets of Rage games, will definitely be looking out for them! Revenge of Shinobi is growing on me to be fair, but didn't stand out compared to some of the other games at first. I got mauled by a wolf quite a lot which made me think of Altered Beast, but other than that they are fairly different now I think about it.

Oh and Road Rash on PS1/Saturn is an unloved classic!! The Mega Drive games are good to though, they need to bring that series back!
