CGM went to a screening of Indie Game: The Movie during the first week of May. It was broadcast from a satellite feed that showed the pre-movie introduction and following question and answer period from the official “premiere” theatre in downtown Toronto. The whole thing, despite our fairly empty West-end Toronto theatre and the The Avengers opening related hullaballoo taking precedence throughout the rest of the cinema, felt a bit like an important event. Everyone — both on the pre-show recording of audience members shuffling into the Bloor Cinema and the handful of people in my theatre — seemed like they were ready for something special to happen.
Noiz from TGA says, "Rivals of Aether is great but you need the patience to stick with it and learn the style of movement this game requires. It looks brilliant with its 8-bit retro style and 80s/90s arcade music which all combine to give the game plenty of character."
SteamFirst: Having recently returned to one of my favorite flash game websites after months of focus on Steam-based games, I was immediately shocked to see what I had given up on in favor of the main-stream game industry releases that Steam, and it’s greenlight, produces.
Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Issac creator Ed McMillen is releasing the Basement Collection - an anthology containing eight of his prior works - on Steam in late August. It will be priced at $4.
While each game can be played for free on McMillen's Newgrounds page, the Basement Collection will be ad-free, playable in full screen and come with a host of goodies.
