Ratchet and Clank go Portable with their latest adventure

Ratchet and Clank Games spring up in mind usually when someone talks about Platformers on The PlayStation 2.After playing this game the PSP Should also be mentioned. Ratchet and Clanks Latest Adventure on the PSP.The Previous Installment Ratchet Deadlocked even though better received than this one was criticized for not including Clank as an in game character or having any real connection with the plot. Responding to the Criticism, Clank was included more in the plot and his in game role was increased as well. Size Matters is the first time the series has appeared on the PlayStation Portable, and it's got just about everything you'd want out of a Ratchet & Clank game, including a good sense of humor, interesting weapons, and sharp level design.

The story begins with Ratchet and Clank on a vacation when they meet with a little girl named Luna who is writing about a school report about super heroes, Shortly after meeting up with them Luna is Kidnapped. The Story Partly Focuses on Saving Luna, Finding out deeper than thought secrets, meeting old acquaintances, saving themselves and as usual saving the galaxy. The Story is Just about the Story of a typical Ratchet and Clank Game, The Characters of the Game remain interesting and the Dialogue has been made more comical with all the characters having a sense of humor.

The Game play also remains pretty much the same as Story Format did. The game play stays true to the series, giving Ratchet & Clank all of their best moves. Ratchet can double-jump, and with Clank on his back, you can pop up some propellers to slow your descent after a jump. Ratchet has the usual arsenal of weapons with his handy wrench, basic laser-pistol like weapons, a rocket launcher, a sniper weapon, acid bombs, little robots that run up and attach to your enemies, and so on. The weapons aren’t equal in terms of power or speed, for example the Lacerator is a great gun when wanting to use speed while the Rocket launcher is great for power, there are some useless weapons too like the concussion gun whose attacks spread around and don’t damage enemies until close in range. Weapons will be upgraded as you keep using them granting you with more power like the lacerator being converted into dual lacerators. Some weapons and gadgets from previous games appear, such as the Hyper shot, Bolt Grabber and R.Y.N.O. Nanotech (health) can also be upgraded. The main way to beat enemies is fire power, so bolts (which are used as currency) are an important criteria of the game. You can find pieces of armor lying around and put them on in many combinations as you like although its better to just stick with the ones you acquire later, the armor pieces help you get more protective with the health meter diminishing in a fewer percentage while also providing you with more aggressive options as your armor can have qualities of ice and fire which you can use to your advantage.

Clank has a broader role in the game as stated before, there are his previous game play sequences where you have to use small robots to access areas or acquire something, the new addition is Clank turning into a giant and fighting in space where you have to dodge and attack enemies, which are huge ships equipped with rockets and lasers, although fun at first this does tend to get repetitive and eventually gets a little boring.Mini games are included in the forms of Hover board racing in order to gain key items, Unlocking Grid locks by turning micro and unlocking them from inside by skating, and dodging, Clank games where you can compete with other robots and Play Puzzles using the small robots. Although the arsenal of weapons and utilities at your disposal are impressive they are, in a certain way, more flash than substance as killing enemies takes time and ammo and there are a whole lot of them coming at you. The enemies, even the small ones, are also pretty strong as there attacks take up quite a chunk of your life. By eliminating enemies your health meter will go up to 50 so its better to fight than flee even if the challenge is sometimes too great. Boss Fights are well done, although there are little of those, they span over a nice amount of time, to fight against a boss you will need to do a good amount of dodging and a fairly huge amount of ammo so you will have to keep track of your upgrades regularly, you will have to perfect the strategy to kill the boss because dying would mean starting the boss fight over again and if that happens you could start feeling frustrated. Also The game has a four-player multiplayer mode that can be played locally or over the Internet. There are a handful of different game types, including basic death match and other, more objective-based modes, and the online section of the game has buddy lists, scoreboards. The Multi Player is good but as a Ratchet and Clank game feels a little Uninspired.

The Graphics are very good for a PSP Game, even if not of its highest potential, and matches up about the same as the PS2 so as size really does matter its good enough. In game graphics look pretty sweet when you see the colors emitted from your weapons in rich textures while Clank's Space fighting sequences also provide some Fireworks style graphics. The Characters are developed nicely, The voice acting is masterfully done and fit the characters in each of their respective roles providing us with funny cut scenes so we don’t get too bored. The Soundtrack is the same kiddish type Music which also goes with the Humorous Characters in the Game. To fit all the Features in the game, slight bugs have found their way in resulting in some cut scenes never appearing, at times, environments also seems to be nowhere in sight too until approached. The bugs don’t show up often, they mostly pop up if you play the game too much, so it’s not much to worry about. Extras include the Cut scenes of the Game and skins for ratchet.

Ratchet and Clank Size Matters may not have been a worthy addition to the Franchise if it was released solely on the PlayStation 2, but due to the PSP not having much high quality games this is good enough for you to play and for the developers to make another game on this platform. If you want a platformer for just plain good old fashioned fun for your PSP, you don’t have to look much further because this game can keep you occupied for while giving you a satisfying experience.
