Ups
  • Interesting story.
  • Awesome new Neon powers to be used.
  • Fun to challenge Battle Arenas.
Downs
  • Repetitive issues of both Main and Side Missions.
  • Short playing time may be an issue.
  • Battle Arenas lack of variety.

A solid standalone inFAMOUS episode.

----------
Story
----------

The story takes place before the events of inFAMOUS: Second Son. Fetch is a Conduit that uses Neon powers. However, she was captured by the D.U.P., an agency that specialises in capturing and killing Conduits. During her imprisonment, Fetch recalls her story of herself and her brother, Brent, and the events led to her capture.

The game's story is short, yet interesting as it shows a bit of Fetch's vulnerable side, such as her fondness with her brother, and her issues with drugs. Taking these two factors in hand, I personally think Fetch is much more relatable and compelling character than Delsin. Not to mention, her Neon powers are extremely stylish to use during combat and exploration. Not many new characters introduced in this game, but the new and old characters in this game did play their role well in this game to establish a continuity between this game and inFAMOUS: Second Son's story.

----------
Gameplay
----------

Like inFAMOUS: Second Son, this game is an open-world adventure game. Be aware that this game is very short, but can be a fun ride to inFAMOUS fans who like Fetch's character. The game's exploration is the same as inFAMOUS: Second Son, but Fetch can only explore one half of Seattle. However, she has her own unique Side Missions such as Lumen Races and collecting Neon Lumens as collectibles. The game's progression plays similarly like inFAMOUS: Second Son, where you can go to the Story Mission marker to proceed the game's story. Otherwise, you are free to explore the first island of Seattle.

Unlike Delsin, Fetch can only use one type of power, which is Neon. However, her Neon powers are much more developed, and you can have access to some of Neon powers that only Fetch can use, such as her own unique Karmic Streak. You can jump, climb buildings, and use her Neon powers such as Lightspeed to travel places quickly. Fetch can also drain Neon energy from Neon sources in case she runs of energy of using her offensive powers.

You can also learn new skills as you progress in the game, as well as upgrade your existing skills. To do so, you need to spend Skill Points, Skill Points can be obtained by completing the game's Challenges, as well as completing the game's Side Missions like Neon Graffiti or Lumen Races. This game also has some mini-events, which can contribute to the game's Challenges completion, such as defeating a number of Akuran gang members drive-by, saving hostages, and etc.

The most notable additions to this game are the Challenges and Battle Arenas. Challenges are sets of challenges that include combat challenges and Battle Arena challenges, Some of the challenges however, can only be done during Free Roam mode which can be unlocked upon finishing the game. Some of the challenges may include you defeating a certain number of enemies of specific types, overload turrets, and many others. Completing these Challenges will reward you Skill Points to upgrade your existing Skills such as your melee attacks.

Battle Arenas are arenas where you fight against endless waves of enemies until Fetch's health is depleted. There are two main two types of Battle Arenas. Survival Battle Arenas challenge you to complete them as many levels as possible while maintaining your highest score as possible. Hostage Battle Arenas challenge you to fight endless waves of enemies while saving hostages. As you progress more and more levels, each enemy wave will increase in number and difficulty. Score is obtained by defeating enemies, and can be multiplied if you keep the chain Multiplier consistently as well as attacking enemies. Not attacking enemies for a certain period of time will decrease the Multiplier value.

Overall gameplay is good, but there is not many substantial additions compared to the first game, other than utilisation of Fetch's Neon powers to the maximum, her own unique Side Missions, as well as the additions of Challenges and Battle Arenas. Repetition is still a major problem in this game, in both Main Missions progression and Side Missions variety. There are no boss fights, as you will be fighting regular gang members and the D.U.P. enemies. Short playing time may or may not be taken into account if you are considering the game's value is worth for the short playing time. However, for what it's worth, this game is still a good one with some fun additions like Challenges and Battle Arenas.

----------
Graphics
----------

Like inFAMOUS: Second Son, this game boasts amazing graphics, with great looking environment design and character designs, However, if you are looking for more new areas to play and look with, don't get your hopes up as there are very few new areas to explore in this game.

----------
Sound
----------

The soundtrack is good, fitting with the game's scenes a lot. Like inFAMOUS: Second Son, I prefer this game's soundtrack as well compared to the first two inFAMOUS games' soundtracks. The voice acting is great as well, with some of the voice actors from inFAMOUS: Second Son reprise their roles in this game.

----------
Replay Value
----------

This game has moderate replay value. You can opt to collect all Neon Lumens, complete all Lumen Races, destroy all Police Drones, complete all Neon Graffiti side-missions, compete in either Survival or Hostage Arenas, and complete all Challenges. The challenge Arenas are fun, as you battle against waves of enemies and get the highest score as much as possible. You may also play the game again in Expert mode. Collecting all Trophies is also a viable reason to play this game again.

----------
Conclusion
----------

In conclusion, this game is a worthy purchase of a short yet solid standalone inFAMOUS game, where it features another Conduit's story and power. Even after playing this game, I still feel that Fetch may be much more suitable to be the main protagonist and playable character in inFAMOUS: Second Son, particularly because of her background story and her character. Despite this game's short playing time and repetitive issues, this game is worth playing for every inFAMOUS fans who can't get enough of using Neon powers.

They really need to

Go off the evil ending off Second Son

Delsin absorbs all those powers

Revealed he’s the real Beast and John in Infamous 2 was just an anomaly created by timelines being messed with by Kessler.

Cole vs the Real Beast

gold_drake299d ago

quite honestly, i dont remember a whole lot about 2 amymore, but i absolutely hated the guy in second son haha.

chicken_in_the_corn298d ago

It would make more sense to go off the evil ending of 2 and the good ending g of SS where Cole is The Beast.

Cacabunga297d ago

Doesnt make any sense calling second son 2 as infamous 3..

OtterX298d ago

Ha, yea Delsin was obnoxious.

I wouldn't mind another new character, but somehow bring Cole into the story.

We can just pretend like Delsin never existed. :)

thejigisup298d ago

Everyone that age is obnoxious. It's been years and is like to think delsin has grown

neutralgamer1992298d ago

Until we wait for a potential new entry it would awesome to have infamous collection for PS5

RaidenBlack298d ago

Umm ... how about this?
First we get the Tushima sequel(coz its most rumored)
Then a new Resistance (need new PS SP FPS)
Then a totally new IP (new IPs are always interesting)
And then a new inFamous?

Pepsi_Man3000298d ago

resistance is insomniac I think

xHeavYx298d ago

Can we also get a complete remaster of InFamous 1 and 2?

fr0sty297d ago

Gimme a new Warhawk and MAG while we're at it.

DivineHand125298d ago

I had a great time with the second son. Never got to play the originals and hope they get remastered one day.

DazaMc298d ago

The graphics were amazing, I got the platinum on that one. Very good.

ChasterMies298d ago (Edited 298d ago )

If I had a choice between another Infamous game and another Spider-Man game, I choose Spider-Man. Sony should spend its resources on its winners.

Tacoboto298d ago (Edited 298d ago )

Infamous was such a winner its studio was given the freedom (after 3 titles + their expansions) to do a new IP with GoT, just like with Sly Cooper before infamous.

I'd welcome a 4th title even more than another Spider-Man, it'd be exciting what they could do with new powers fit for the hardware outside the limits of a licensed superhero game.

jznrpg298d ago

Spider-Man is guaranteed and is made by Insomniac so why not both as Sucker Punch would make Infamous.

None of these worth buying in this "sale". These can be found on disc for much less.

Xaevi1909d ago

Sucks they don't put infamous at 7$ like they used to. I got Bloodborne for 7 bucks years ago too. Once they make the Hit List they don't go lower than 14 it seems

rolando1231909d ago

yeah this is true but i totally think Second Son and First Light for 30 bucks or whatever is a fantastic deal. Two great platinum trophies too!

Sony’s best-selling Infamous series did X-Men games better than the actual X-Men

For decades, superheroes had the worst luck when it came to video games, the X-Men chief among them. There are a few welcome outliers—Raven Software’s X-Men Legends duology remains a classic, Wolverine’s game adaptation for his first solo movie has its silly charm, and you can still find the classic beat-’em-up cabinet in arcades everywhere—but there are more lows than highs, from Mutant Wars and X2: Wolverine’s Revenge, to the franchise’s last big stab at mainstream gaming respectability, 2011’s X-Men: Destiny. Sluggish and overwrought, the latter seemed to be the kiss of death for Marvel’s mutants, the precursor to their eventual fate years before they were kicked out of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. (Getting left out in the cold during Marvel’s big purchase by Disney probably didn’t help.)

When you find out that Kessler is Cole. Mind blown. It was so awesome

Nitrowolf22167d ago

Yeah I really wasn’t expecting that at all, loved it though and made me feel bad for him

Shame cause I thought 2 feel flat in comparison was hoping it’d be set up for us to fail and having to travel back as Kessler.

Easily could have made three focused around getting cole out of that loop.

AspiringProGenji2167d ago

Ah Infamous 2, such a well made game. I miss playing it and would love a remaster. Many people had issues with the story, but I myself enjoyed it. Maybe if I get back and play it I might realize why, but god damn I loved the game

hebewanif2166d ago

my roomate's step-mother makes $72 every hour on the computer . She has been out of a job for six months but last month her check was $13623 just working on the computer for a few hours.

use *Spoiler Alert* next time.

Zeke682166d ago

It's a PS3 title, no need for spoiler tags....
Spolier alert Dr No is the bad guy in the first James Bond movie with the same name from 1962 end spolier alert
How long should it go on in your opinion? 😉

SCW19822166d ago (Edited 2166d ago )

Really? It came out 10 years ago. I think we are past needing spoiler warnings at this point.

lelo2play2166d ago

We shouldn't call them X-Men... feminists don't like it.

Zeke682166d ago

X-(Wo)men *fixed it*
Off topic: northern Sweden and we got 28C in the shadow, damn, my beer is cold for 1 minute and then boiling hot hehe
🥵😎🤘

zsquaresoff2167d ago

Sony needs to remaster both infamous games for ps4/5. Incredible games with pretty easy platinum trophies.

thatguyhayat2166d ago

Infamous 1 looking for the shards was a b*tch.

SamPao2166d ago

yeah that was indeed annoying :D

Silly gameAr2166d ago (Edited 2166d ago )

That was the only trophy I didn't get because it glitched out on me. I have Infamous 2 and Second Son Platinum trophy, but can't get that Infamous 1 plat. That always bugged me.

The_Hooligan2166d ago

The one that gave me hard time was killing 3 people at once by making them fall from a high place. That stunt was a bitch lol. But i really enjoyed the first two infamous games. I need to play second son though.

AspiringProGenji2167d ago (Edited 2167d ago )

I've actually thought the same thing and how Sucker Punch can expand this IP and have their own Xmen. I wish we get an sequel to Infamous 2's bad ending which gave everyone affected by the blast super powers

CBaoth2166d ago

Sucker Punch screwed the series by choosing the "good" ending as canon. Infamous 3 could've been exquisite if Cole ***SPOILERS*** had wiped out 7 billion on the planet. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, Cole should've been the antagonist or at the very least a tortured soul seeking redemption as he became the Beast. Far more interesting concept with intriguing story arcs but they played it safe with banal tropes of the modern political climate.

Andy_Dee2166d ago

Yeah I really enjoyed the first and second one. Never before had I played a game that was like this.

A new experience and the for me as a new fan!
