Ups

Downs
  • Short Campaign.{A large hacking community.{Ragdolls get out of hand sometimes.

Call Of Duty 4 does great things to change the series.

Call Of Duty 4 bough something new to the Call Of Duty series. Just like its name says, it brings in Modern Warfare. Honestly, I thought the World War II setting was being completely overused. I'm glad that this move was made, and so did a lot of other people. With this new setting, does Infinity Ward succeed?

Like said before, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes place in Modern times, so you get to use Modern weapons and such. The campaign starts off with you going through a training mission with the S.A.S. During this time, you control "Soap" MacTavish. This decides your recommended difficulty. A few missions later, you will do some missions with the USMC. This is when you control the character Sergeant Paul Jackson. Both of the organizations are trying to stop the Ultra-Nationalist Irman Zakhaev from bombing America.

The gameplay works really well here. The new weapons bring some fun, as well as the all-new setting. The campaign, though, is shorter than the average shooter. It took me 4 1/2 hours to beat the campaign. That's about half the length it took me to beat Call Of Duty 2. The great gameplay and very nice story make up for this.

Going away from the campaign is the thing that ever Call Of Duty fan anticipates: the Multiplayer. Modern Warfare's Multiplayer is very rewarding and brings something new into the series. Its experienced based, but matches are rarely one-sided. As you gain levels, you unlock weapons, perks, skins, and challenges. Perks are new to Multiplayer in this installment. Perks are little abilities you get in battle. Theres perks that go from Juggernaut, a perk that gives you a little more health, to Frag x3, which gives you 3 frag grenades. There are a total of 55 levels to acquire.

There is another nifty feature that you unlock through leveling up, which is Create-A-Class. This feature allows you to choose which weapon(s) you bring into the match, as well as attachments, perks, and skins. You can choose up to 3 perks to use. There is a good amount of game modes in Call Of Duty 4. There are Free-For-All, Team Deathmatch, Headquarters, Domination, Sabotage, and Search and Destroy. If you like Mods, then Call Of Duty 4 comes packed with a lot of them with custom maps and game modes. Hardcore mode is also a new addition into the game. This works with every game mode. What it does is it takes away your HUD, reduces your health, and make weapons stronger. This is the mode that makes you feel like your in war.

Also coming new to Multiplayer is Killstreak rewards. There are rewards for 3 kills, 5 kills, and 7 kills. If you get 3 straight kills without dieing, you get a UAV, which opens up a radar that shows where your teammates and enemies are, which really helps with Hardcore mode. 5 kills will get you an Airstrike. An airstrike lets you send out a location for Jets to drop bombs at. 7 kills will get you a Helicopter. The helicopter will flyout through the map and get kills for you. The helicopter can be shot down, though and there can be only 1 Helicopter on the map at a time.

The graphics look very nice. It has a nice feel of the Modern scene. The character models also look very good as well. The shadowing is also well done. Weapon models are done well and goes nearly to par with actual weapons. There are a few little pop-ins here and there. If you have a good rig, you can get a frame rate at 60, even during big firefights.

The sound in the game is really great. It really sounds like a battlefield when your playing Multiplayer. Almost every gun as a different sound to it. The voice acting in both Multiplayer and Singleplayer are both good.

Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers GP users draw in come tomorrow. It is believed that this is one many have been waiting for.

Darth,

That is not accurate; this game is old, and most people who want it have already bought it. You might get a small number of subs, but we will mostly see a good influx of players(not new subs) from people with Game Pass who will try it, which is what happened with D4.

CoD: BO 6 will be the test for actual sub numbers.

That's fair... seeing as many have been saying they want CoD in GP. My comment was more of , now that its here... what can it do. Im sure there will be other titles in the franchise that will either entice or turn off different users.

No one's buying a console and signing up for a monthly bill just to get this game to avoid buying it. That's ridiculous. Besides everyone bagged the crap out of this on release for the 4 hour campaign.

Sweet. Never got round to it on release. I'll give the campaign a go

Severly underrated game. Big improvement over 2.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
