There are around 20 different characters in Zenless Zone Zero (with two more on the way, Burnice and Ceasar, coming with Update 1.2). Over time, you realize that some characters are a bit better than the rest and are separated into tiers, with S-Tier reserved for the strongest characters. With new characters added to New Eridu with every update, the fans are wondering: is it time for some existing characters to receive an S-Tier version, instead of constantly adding new ones?
Will ZZZ Ever Upgrade Characters to S-Tier?
There is no official information, and the community is split over this. In a Reddit thread discussing this exact subject, some players are adamant this will never happen in Zenless Zone Zero. You get comments like: “I’ll be surprised if any of them get it at all” and “Yeah, I don’t expect it to happen in zzz”. Some say that that kind of upgrade is for those games “that like milking money a lot, so I wouldn’t count on that in ZZZ”.
On the other hand, the other half of the fans would love for characters to get upgrades. “I prefer getting “upgrades” because it gives the lore / story team more time to focus on existing characters instead having to constantly insert new characters into the story in order to make sales.” said aereiaz.
Which Character Should Be the First?
Provided that Mihoyo does start to upgrade characters to higher tiers, the question is who will be the first. This question was asked by Ion0X on Reddit, where they proposed Billy should be the first to receive an upgrade. Surprisingly, this was met with approval from the community, with darkelfinrpgworld adding: “He deserves the most. Besides, we already have gazillions of female characters half of them being S rank. Currently there are only 5 male characters and only 1 of them is S rank, which is Lycaon. 1 more S rank male agent wouldn’t hurt anyone… “
However, the majority thinks that the first upgrade will go to Anby. User migz_draws said: “It’s gonna be Anby, I bet. For lore reasons” and ChaosTB added: “Id say anby. She has obvious ties to Soldier 11, and since Obol squad is still pretty much unknown, it will be far enough away to warrant an Anby upgrade at that time “
Both of them are characters you begin the game with, so some love would be great. That is if Mihoyo does decide to start upgrading existing characters. Both sides have valid arguments so only time will tell.
