Zenless Zone Zero is Hoyo’s latest gacha game and is arguably one of the best around. It gets its revenue from you to buy useful in-game stuff (like the Inter-Knot Membership) or new Agents. It is a free-to-play game and it has to earn money in some way, after all. But, it turns out that Zenless Zone Zero has found a perfect balance and checked all the right boxes.

ZZZ’s July Revenue is Through the Roof

July is over and now we can look at some numbers. According to GameLook (a Chinese game journalist), Zenless Zone Zero made somewhere between 300 and 350 million dollars in the month of July only. Those numbers are insane. As one fan put it: “Wow, this make more money in one month than some hit movie.”

This is discussed in a Reddit thread, started by Resident-Bridge2731. Everyone agrees that they have built a good reputation which is crucial for any company’s success. Athuanar stated: “Yeah, a lot of people hesitate to spend on gachas because they get shut down randomly after a year or so or the quality deteriorates. [MiHoYo] has a solid track record of successful games which actually feeds into people being more willing to spend now.”

The Success Stems From Trust

All fans agree that the players’ trust in Hoyo is the reason for this success. Hoyo has delivered time and time again and produces quality content, so gamers are not hesitant to throw some cash their way. User -MONSTR- said: “Hoyo with the back-to-back-to-back successes. People trust this company. This is why you Reinvest in Development, people remember.”

The consensus is investing extra time and money to make a game really good will pay dividends. As ToEatIsToBecomeOne said: “Fun fact, Hoyo does not release a game that doesn’t meet their standard…It’s not about making a profit, but all about making a game people enjoy playing.” User OutlandishnessFew686 added: “Quality meets mass quantity. Hoyo makes very quality games. It’s always so cool to me how they can deliver so much content almost entirely bug free. Their quality control is insane.”

Whether you’re a fan of gacha games or not, you can’t ignore the fact that they can turn a profit, without resorting to underhanded tactics. A lot of game companies could learn from Hoyo.
