Zenless Zone Zero is a great game in many regards. It is an F2P game with some awesome visuals and fun gameplay, perfect for casual players. But, one department that it is lacking is in-game descriptions. Thankfully, one player decided to do some research on the Assault stat and shared their findings.

One Player Found Out What Stats Contribute to the Assault Stat

A dedicated player, named IcyFoxe on Reddit, realized that there is no info on the Assault stat in Zenless Zone Zero, so they decided to do their own research. They found out that the Assault scales with:

  • Character level
  • Anomaly Proficiency
  • Physical DMG bonus
  • ATK
  • PEN & PEN Ratio
  • Direct damage increase, like from Fanged Metal set
  • Stun damage multiplier

What it doesen’t scale with is:

  • CRIT Rate
  • CRIT DMG

Note that the position of the stats on the list has no additional impact on the Assault. The community was quick to offer additional explanations.

What is the Difference Between PEN and PEN Ratio?

If you are unsure what PEN does, and how’s it different from PEN Ratio, the community has your back. “One is flat, one is percentage,” said the OP. User Sailen_Rox clarified ever further: “Lets say you’ve got 50 PEN and 20% PEN-Ratio. Both affect the DEF of your target. But while PEN subtracts flat 50 from the DEF Stat (lets say 100) PEN-Ratio subtracts 20% of that (so 20). So PEN Flat is better when enemys have lower defensive stats, while PEN-Ratio gets better with higher stats.“ Note that you cannot get the enemy DEF to below zero.

Does This Affect Skill Multipliers?

One user, named cassani7, asked “What about skill multipliers? Like let’s say I build 80% of the anomaly bar with my basic attacks and the rest with my dodge attack do we consider the skill damage as well?”

Another user, named Yarigumo answered: “No, only your stats. Skills have their own amount of buildup (how much the bar fills) but have no effect on damage once it’s full.”

While we understand that number-crunching is not the focus of Zenless Zone Zero, at least some explanation would have been nice. Thankfully, the community is here to provide some insight.
