How Do You Throw Items in Tears of the Kingdom

To throw items in Tears of the Kingdom, you have to first hold the R button. Then, press up on the D-pad to open a menu that shows you every item you can throw. Simply select the item you want to throw then release the R button to have Link throw that item.

The throwing mechanic is more important than ever in Tears of the Kingdom. The biggest reason for this is all the new abilities that utilize materials and items that are on the ground. The fuse ability, for example, requires the fusing material to be on the ground near you. Knowing how to throw your items will make life so much easier.

Fortunately, throwing items isn’t really all that difficult.

  1. First, you should hold the R button, which will cause Link to take a throwing stance. Make sure you don’t release the button just yet.
  2. Then, you should tap the up button on the D-pad to open a menu that will show you every item you can throw.
  3. Browse through the list of items and look for the one you want to throw then select it.
  4. With the item in Link’s hands, release the R button and Link will automatically throw the item he’s holding.

If the item you’re throwing has any special abilities like the Fire Fruit, then that ability will be activated upon contact with the ground. For example, running with the Fire Fruit example, if you throw one at an enemy then it’ll a pretty high deal of damage in a wide area. Therefore, you can potentially get imaginative with your items to see which ones are worth throwing at enemies.

Can Weapons Be Thrown in Tears of the Kingdom

If you were wondering whether or not you can throw things that aren’t items, then boy do we have news for you. You can throw literally anything in this game. You can even throw weapons at an enemy and then pick them up later on as long as they don’t break.

Additionally, one pretty cool feature is that if you use the throw mechanic with the Master Sword equipped, Link will fire off a wave of energy. Of course, if you’ve played the other Legend of Zelda games then you’ll know that the wave only comes out if Link is at full health.
