Enemies aren’t the only danger lurking in the land and skies of Hyrule. Similar to the prequel, Tears of the Kingdom also requires you to take measures that protect Link against harsh environments. The one we’re talking about today is the extreme cold, which will require you to do something to keep Link warm.

Fortunately, there are two measures for keeping Link warm, and we’re here to go through both of them. Don’t worry, we won’t let Link turn into a popsicle any time soon.

How do you Keep Warm in Tears of the Kingdom

As mentioned above, there are two ways to keep Link warm in Tears of the Kingdom. The first way is to eat certain cold resistant meals which give you a temporary resistance to the cold. The second is by equipping Link with cold resistant armor and clothing.

The method you’ll probably be using the most is feeding Link meals that protect him against the cold. There are certain ingredients scattered around Hyrule that grant you resistance to cold for a set amount of time. While there are several ingredients that accomplish this, some of the most common ones are:

  • Spicy peppers, which are very common in cold areas.
  • Sunshrooms, which can be foraged for in warm areas like the desert
  • Warm Darner Dragonflies, which can be found both on the sky islands and on land in warm areas.

The most common ingredient is by far spicy peppers, which you’ll most likely be using the most during the early game. This is because they’re VERY common, and you’ll most likely come across a bunch of them even before you hit the hour mark in your playtime.

Once you get your hands on some cold resistant ingredients, simply head to your nearest cooking pot or Portable Pot Zonai device and get to cooking them. How long your cold resistance effect lasts varies from meal to meal.

For example, if you cook five spicy peppers together, then you’ll create a Spicy Sauteed Peppers dish which will grant you a little over twelve minutes of cold resistance. This means you’ll be able to stay cold in the cold weather for over twelve minutes without having to worry about taking damage. Plenty of time for some good quality exploration if you ask us.

How To Stay Warm With Clothes

The second and much more convenient method for staying warm is simply equipping Link with some cold resistant armor. This type of armor can potentially be found in chests while exploring the land and sky islands.

If you aren’t in the mood for exploration, then you can simply head on over to Nekk’s Armour Shop in Rito Village to purchase some warm clothes. Keep in mind, however, that the Snowquill Tunic, Headdress, and Trousers, all of which grant you cold resistance, don’t come cheap. You should ensure you have a bunch of rupees with you when you head there, otherwise, you might have to come back empty handed.

Do keep in mind that these clothes don’t give you complete resistance to cold. Therefore, remember to keep an eye on the temperature meter near the bottom right of the screen to know how much resistance to cold you have.
