Throughout The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link’s Ultrahand ability can be used to create myriad Zonai devices and vehicles. With the help of transportation, you’re able to traverse the kingdom of Hyrule with ease. However, these devices won’t run for long, as the battery power is determined by Link’s Energy Cells.
Luckily, there’s a way to increase the power of your Energy Cells. From your first visit to the Mining Cave on Great Sky Island, Forge Constructs found in the area will tell you all about Zonai Charges and Crystallized Charges. These items will play a key role in upping the life expectancy of your powered-up devices.
We’re here to walk you through the process of increasing your battery with Energy Cell upgrades and obtaining the materials you’ll need to get the job done in Tears of the Kingdom.
- Just tap an amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on a compatible system
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening
- Enjoy fun in-game extra features in compatible games on the Nintendo Switch system, New Nintendo 2DS XL system, New Nintendo 3DS XL system and Wii U console
How To Upgrade Battery in Tears of the Kingdom?
While Constructs are more than happy to explain how the battery life on your Energy Cells works, they can be a bit long-winded, adding to the confusion. Point blank, you’ll need to upgrade the Zonai Energy Cells in Link’s possession to increase battery life. At the cost of 100 Crystallized Charges, you can upgrade them with Energy Wells at the Crystal Refinery just outside Lookout Landing.
While simple, the upgrade process is a bit lengthy in practice. Here are the steps:
- Collect Zonaite.
- Exchange Zonaite for Crystallized Charges at Crystal Refineries.
- Exchange Crystallized Charges for Energy Wells at Crystal Refineries.
How to Farm Zonaite in Tears of the Kingdom
Zonaite is an increasingly scarce ore resource in Tears of the Kingdom. Despite this, Zonaite can easily be obtained in the following ways:
- Mining in the Mining Cave on Great Sky Island
- Mining in the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths
- Defeating enemies
How to Farm Crystallized Charges in Tears of the Kingdom
Not to be confused with less powerful Zonai Charges, Crystallized Charges can be obtained by exchanging three Zonaite for one charge at the Crystal Refinery just outside Lookout Landing. You’ll need to speak with a Forge Construct to do this.
While charges can sometimes also be found in loot chests throughout Tears of the Kingdom, they’re few and far between. Because of this, mining Zonaite is the most sustainable option.
All in all, it’s going to take a lot of time and effort to increase the battery life of Link’s Energy Cells, but it’s worth the trouble in the long run. With more power, you can make better use of Link’s abilities and the various Zonai devices at your disposal in Tears of the Kingdom.
