How to Grab Shooting Stars in Tears of the Kingdom

The Star Fragment description box displayed after Link catches a star fragment in Tears of the Kingdom

One of the most elusive items available in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the star fragment. Whether you know them as shooting stars or falling stars, they can only be seen as they light up the night sky. In contrast to those found in Breath of the Wild, fragments will fall toward Sky Islands, and you’ll need to grab them before they reach Hyrule’s surface.

This makes it exceedingly difficult to get your hands on star fragments in Tears of the Kingdom. Even so, they’re definitely worth the trouble of pursuing, as they can be fused with Link’s weapons later on. It will certainly require some practice to get the hang of it, but you’ll need to learn how to act fast and grab star fragments as they fall from the sky.

Some players have caught on quick, catching fragments midair. Luckily, we’ve outlined the process so you, too, can grab star fragments in Tears of the Kingdom. Here’s how it’s done.

How Do You Grab Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom?

Also known as shooting stars and falling stars, star fragments are obtainable by either sky diving or paragliding from Sky Islands or Skyview Towers and plucking them from their path with the A button as they fall. This is much easier said than done, and it’ll require some getting used to if you want to perfect the process.

To do this, you’ll need to get comfortable with diving and using your paraglider. Once you’re used to the controls, pass the time until nightfall and begin your search for star fragments in the sky.

When you spot a star fragment, open your Purah Pad and fast travel to the Skyview Tower nearest to the star fragment’s location. If you’re already nearby on a Sky Island, you’re all set. Just dive or activate your paraglider to chase after the falling fragment.

Get as close as you can to the star fragment and press A to catch it. Of course, it may take you a few tries before you’re able to successfully catch one. In any case, practice makes perfect and you should be able to get your hands on a star fragment soon enough.

Where Can You Find Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom?

You can obtain star fragments as they fall from the night sky in Tears of the Kingdom. While they could be obtained after they fell to the surface of Hyrule in Breath of the Wild, you must now grab them while diving or gliding in Tears of the Kingdom.

Additionally, some chests throughout Hyrule contain star fragments. Although, they are few and far between, so your best best is to farm star fragments on Sky Islands.

What Can You Do with Star Fragments in Tears of the Kingdom?

In Tears of the Kingdom, star fragments can be fused with weapons by using Link’s Fuse ability. One player demonstrated the coveted Star Fragment Spear they created on Reddit. Fusing weapons with items like star fragments can greatly enhance their power and durability, so obtaining a variety of materials is immensely helpful in the long run.
