The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has introduced a handful of new ways to traverse the kingdom of Hyrule. While Link’s Ultrahand ability allows you to build a variety of motorized vehicles from aircraft to motorbikes, his tried and true paraglider remains the most trusted mode of transportation in the new title.
However, the paraglider isn’t available from the very beginning of the game. In true Zelda fashion, you’ll first need to complete a series of tutorials before unlocking the helpful tool. Similar to your starting point in Breath of the Wild, you’ll begin your Tears of the Kingdom playthrough on a Sky Island, then descend to the surface to begin the first main quest, To the Kingdom of Hyrule.
From that point, how do you get your hands on the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom? Your journey will lead you to Purah, who soon offers up the handy item. Here’s what you need to know.

How Do You Get the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom?
To get the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll need to meet Purah and get started on the quest entitled Crisis at Hyrule Castle. As the former research head at Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, Purah now oversees a community whose mission is to save Princess Zelda. Following her quest, you’ll become familiar with her and the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower.
As you talk with Purah, she’ll give you the paraglider. There’s no trick here, as you just need to follow along with the progression of the story to get your hands on the early game mode of transportation.

How Do You Use the Paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom?
If you played Breath of the Wild, then you may already know how to use the paraglider in Tears of the Kingdom. If not, using the transport device is fairly simple. Just follow these steps:
- Jump from a high point in Hyrule.
- You’ll be prompted to press the X button to glide with the paraglider.
- Pay attention to Link’s stamina meter, as it will quickly deplete.
As you progress through the game, you’ll collect various items throughout Hyrule and cook meals that offer effects. To buy some extra time, you can eat foods that increase your stamina while gliding.
How Do You Change the Paraglider’s Appearance in Tears of the Kingdom?
In Tears of the Kingdom, you can now change the appearance of Link’s paraglider by dying its fabric. This can be done relatively early on at Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village. Just speak to Sayge to view your options.
From the list, you’ll also be able to alter the appearance of armor, which allows you to add a personal touch to Link’s appearance on your Tears of the Kingdom playthrough.
Throughout the game, you’re bound to rely on the paraglider to get out of sticky situations. Now that you can customize the handy transport item much like your horses and Ultrahand creations, you can even coordinate with Link and your favorite mount.
