How To Get Increase Hearts in Tears of the Kingdom

There are two methods to increase Link’s hearts, or life bar in Tears of the Kingdom. The first, more permanent method is to trade Blessings of Light for health upgrades at Goddess Statues. The other method is to cook specific meals that will grant extra hearts that are only temporary and cannot be refilled once lost.

How To Increase Hearts Using Goddess Statues

Goddess Statues are located around and above Hyrule, and will give Link the choice of increasing his hearts or stamina after handing over four Blessings of Light. The easiest Goddess Statue to travel to is located in the Emergency Shelter under Lookout Landing.

Players can earn one Blessing of Light by completing any of the various shrines in the world. These shrines will challenge Link with puzzles or combat. Some even strip his current weapons and must make do with the tools given to him.

How To Increase Hearts with Meals

Cooking some foods in Tears of the Kingdom will not only heal Link, but overfill his life bar with extra hearts. These hearts are only temporary, and Link will have to eat more of the specific recipes to regain the extra hearts.

While most recipes will only heal Link, there are a few ingredients that will offer extra hearts once cooked. Be sure to combine ingredients that have the word “hearty” in them to get extra hearts, such as Hearty Salmon and Hearty Bass.
