Link has two primary ways to attack in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The most common will be using a one-handed or two-handed weapon by equipping the weapon and pressing Y. Each weapon will deal different amounts of damage, with two-handed weapons typically being stronger. The trade-off is that one-handed weapons can be used with a shield.

The second method Link can fight with is the bow. You can press ZL to aim and then press and hold ZR to charge and fire an arrow. Bows are better used against long distance enemies or when you are trying to stealthily take out foes. You will need to have a bow and arrows equipped if you want to fight at range. The bow is my preferred way to take out my enemies. You can attach items, like Bomb Flowers or Fire Fruit, to power up your arrows and unleash special attacks.

Do Weapons Break in The Legend of Zelda Tears of The Kingdom?

Yes, weapons will break in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom if you attack with them too much. A weapon will blink red when its durability is close to breaking. When a weapon breaks, Link will be left unarmed. You can easily swap to another weapon with the D-pad or in the menu.

Can You Parry in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

You can parry enemy attacks in Tears of the Kingdom. You must have lock on to an enemy and wait for them to attack. Dodge at the perfect time and time slows down, allowing Link to unleash a Flurry Attack. This counterattack can deal devastating damage to enemies.

You may encounter Shrines where the sole goal is to defeat enemies. Some may require perfect guard, dodging, parrying, counterattacking and more. Mastering these techniques is crucial for defeating some of the tougher enemies in-game, especially final bosses.
