What is The Best Order to Play Tears of the Kingdom

After completing the initial four shrines in the Great Sky Island, you should head to Rito Village, then Goron City, then Zora’s Domain, and finally to Gerudo Town. With the four main temples completed, you should tackle the secret Dragonhead Island temple. After completing all of this, the last thing to do is to complete the Crisis at Hyrule Castle.

Which Temple Should You Complete First?

We recommend completing the Temples in the following order –

  1. Wind Temple
  2. Fire Temple
  3. Water Temple
  4. Lightning Temple
  5. Spirit Temple

1 – Rito Village – Wind Temple

The first temple you should head to after the initial shrines at the Great Sky Island is the Rito Village’s Wind Temple. While getting to the temple might be a little tricky because of all the climbing, it’s overall a pretty straight forward dungeon.

Perhaps the best thing about it is the fact that you only need cold resistant clothes or food. Since you’ll most likely already have the cold resistant pants from the opening sequence, you’ll only need one more layer of cold resistance to seal the deal. Complete the Tulin of Rito Village quest given at Rito Village to get access to this temple.

2 – Goron City – Fire Temple

After completing the Wind Temple, you should head on over to Death Mountain for the Fire Temple. Now, while the previous temple required you to have cold resistance, this temple will demand heat resistance. Fortunately, you can either purchase some armor pieces or craft elixirs for free using lizards and critters found around the mountain.

This temple is rather tedious because of how much time you have to spend in the Depths, but it’s overall a pretty easy ride. Upon reaching Death Mountain, complete the ‘Yunobo of Goron City’ quest to get to the Fire Temple.

3 – Zora’s Domain – Water Temple

While the Fire and Water Temples are easily interchangeable, we decided it’s best to save this one for later. Perhaps the biggest reason for this is that the Water Temple has certain enemies that are able to very easily one shot you. Therefore, we highly recommend you complete some shrines and side quests before tackling this temple.

Getting to the temple is pretty easy, but the temple itself is riddled with various puzzles that you’ll have to solve. You’ll also find some very powerful weapons while progressing, which should make the rest of the trip that much easier. Complete Zora Domain’s ‘Sidon of the Zora’ quest to find the Water Temple.

4 – Gerudo Town – Lightning Temple

The last of the four main temples you should go for is definitely the Lightning Temple. Not only is getting to the bunker where the Gerudo are staying rather difficult, but you also need to come well equipped. Whereas the Wind Temple required cold resistance and the Fire Temple asked for heat resistance, the Gerudo Desert can ask for either depending on the time.

Complete the ‘Riju of Gerudo Town’ quest line, which begins shortly after you enter the bunker, and you’ll be able to access the Lightning Temple.

5 – Dragonhead Island – Spirit Temple

We don’t want to spoil what goes on in this temple, but we definitely believe you should complete this secret temple before completing the main quest. Although this temple isn’t mandatory, it’s one of the more fun temples in the game and will require you to actually face some really difficult enemies.

You’ll have to head to Dragonhead Island, the structure that lurks inside of the stormcloud in the Faron Sky if you want to gain access to this temple. Despite that, the temple itself will be in the Depths as you will soon find out.

Crisis at Hyrule Castle

With all four of the main temples completed, you’ll be able to access Hyrule Castle to finally wrap up the main quest. Despite this, we highly recommend you only start this quest when you’re absolutely sure you’re prepared because it won’t be easy. You can start this quest at any time after completing the four main temples by heading to the castle entrance.
