Finding a game that hits the spot is rare. Some games have great visuals but bad mechanics. Other games may have great gameplay but clunky visuals. Additionally, a lot of action games can have combat mechanics that boil down to plain button mashing without much sense. But, when Kuro Games released Wuttering Waves, the fans of the genre were awestruck. The game has it all, beautiful visuals and a very well-developed combat system. So much so that some players took it as a “new standard” and now have trouble enjoying other similar games, simply due to the fact that Wuthering Waves is so good.
Other Action Games Pale in Comparison to Wuthering Waves
Sometimes a game can tick all of your boxes, and you will be unable NOT to compare it to every other game in the genre. Such is the case with NearA2mato, who expressed their admiration in a Reddit post. They said that, as far as action games go, like Dark Souls or Devil May Cry, Wuthering Waves has the best combat system of them all.
They claim that other games have combo-mechanics that are there just for fun and to look cool (in the case of DMC), or are just “rudimentary” (in the case of Souls games). Alternatively, “in wuwa the combos are a completely different type – they’re more meaningful and really boost your damage output if you do everything correctly. Every sequence, every skill pressed, everything makes sense, everything works towards those giant numbers, that are especially important in the timelimit situations. I’ve never seen something that made combos make so much sense
More players agree, comparing the game to Geshin Impact (arguably the most similar game to WuWe). Some state, like Xendarel, that: ‘coming from WuWa back to Genshin, the massive downgrade in the exploration and combat experience is very jarring.“ and SaishoNoKaze adds: “The biggest thing that I noticed was the running animation. Genshin looked so bad imo. Wuwa feels more natural and fluid.”
Even The Best Games Have Room For Improvement
On the other hand, other players are frustrated with the gacha game mechanics. As stated by another player, the randomness of the whole system means that you can find yourself without any of the more powerful characters, which can make the rest of the game harder to beat, which directly impacts the motivation to continue. “I want to suggest all the gacha game companies to at least guarantee our first two limited five stars. That way I’ll at least have to motivation to play the game”
Thankfully, other players are there to offer encouragement, with iMasato101 saying: “They gave us 2 guaranteed 5 star standard, 1 random in 50 pulls, 5 star weapon selector and another guaranteed 5 star weapon…This is by far the most generous gacha game I know.”
We are aware that some players can get the short end of the stick with those random loot drop/gacha games. Thankfully, the devs are doing the best they can to make everyone’s experience with their game enjoyable.
