Fans were quick to speculate that there’s little reason for Zelda to use a Sheikah Slate unless she intends to harness its power in-game, just as we do with Link. That’s not all, though. Nintendo has been rather “coy” with their responses during interviews. When asked about a playable Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom, their response was that “I can’t tell you that,” rather than outright denying it as they did when the same question was raised for Breath of the Wild.

Hints About Playable Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom Trailer

Finally, let’s dissect the hints sprinkled all over the trailer. In the short 2-minute clips that fans were given, there’s a distinct cutscene where Zelda is seen falling into a pit. We also suspected a sneak-peak into the underground tavern buried deep under Hyrule. 

What’s interesting is, however, that in all the gameplay scenes in the trailer, we never see Link traversing through that underground tavern. All we see is him gliding over the lush green meadows and the castles of Hyrule. So, what gives?

Possibly, it’s indicative of the possibility that Zelda will have to navigate through the murky depths of Hyrules underground herself. If that’s true, there are really two scenarios we can expect, given Zelda’s rich history. One, throughout the game, we observe tiny cutscenes where Zelda tries to find a way out of those murky pits. The second possibility, however, is that we get to play as Zelda, controlling her character in order to find a way to the underground tavern.
