Will the Zonai Appear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Link looks to a red moon.

Following the drop of a 13-minute gameplay demonstration for the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, franchise fans are abuzz about a reference made to the Zonai Tribe. Conducted by game producer, Eiji Aonuma, the footage revealed all-new features and enemies that we haven’t yet seen seen from the long-standing franchise, lending excitement for the possibilities awaiting us.

Upon closer inspection of the newly introduced enemies and items, it now seems that the relatively short video might have revealed much more about the Zonai’s role in Tears of the Kingdom than we initially anticipated.

Will the ancient Zonai race finally appear in Tears of the Kingdom?

Let’s go over the hints we’ve received.

Are the Zonai in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

In short, we aren’t sure just yet if the Zonai will appear in Tears of the Kingdom.

However, there is compelling evidence that we will finally see the references made to this ancient tribe become a reality in the new title.

In the gameplay demonstration released by Nintendo yesterday, Aonuma narrated as Link faced off against a new kind of enemy called a Construct. A few items were dropped upon defeating it, one of which was a Zonai Charge.

This seems to be an indicator that Construct enemies might be related in some way to the Zonai Tribe. Of course, this is not yet confirmed, but franchise fans are now expecting to explore the relationship between the two in Tears of the Kingdom this May.

Who Are the Zonai?

While previously mentioned in the franchise, there is very little that we actually know about the Zonai.

Throughout Hyrule, the Zonai are known as ancient barbarians who vanished long ago, leaving behind symbols, relics, and the Zonai Ruins, which could be explored in Breath of the Wild. The Barbarian Set of armor could also be obtained by opening treasure chests throughout various regions of the game.

Some watchful players have pointed out possible references to a dragon-like god worshipped by the ancient tribe in trailers for Tears of the Kingdom, which may hold some truth now that we know objects related to the Zonai appear in the sequel to Breath of the Wild.

While franchise fans certainly have a lot of theories regarding how the Zonai might appear in Tears of the Kingdom, nothing has been confirmed just yet. For now, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the game this coming May.
