Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world. So, sometimes, unpredictable bad things happen to all of us. Many people have had unpleasant experiences, like being robbed or scammed, happen to them at least once in their lives. As horrible as these events feel, it’s important to know how to react and which steps you can take. So, Steam Deck users shared all the things you could and should do if your device gets stolen.

Several Community Members Reported Their Device Was Stolen

We’ve noticed a strange occurrence in the Steam Deck community on Reddit. Several Steam Deck users reported their device was stolen recently and asked the community for help.

One user, Tsaurus_, noted: “As of 2.2.2025 22:30ish, my Steam Deck unfortunately got stolen from my place of work in a break-in. This morning I watched the security recording of burglar walking away with my backpack. May this “roadman” perish in a fire. The one weekend I leave my backpack at my office under my desk, a piece of **** breaks in and steals among other things my backpack. My beautiful baby served me well since circa Sep 16, 2022, @ 6:37pm, when I first purchased it for myself as a birthday gift”.

Another user, angelbunny333, simply stated: “My Steam Deck got stolen. I’m sad… it was removed from my backpack”. Surprisingly enough, there have been several other complaints of devices being stolen. This sudden surge in reports is probably due to users not knowing what to do if someone stole their device.

Steam Deck Community Suggests What to Do

Steam Deck community once again proved how awesome it was and listed everything that could be helpful. As it turns out, there are several things you should do if this happens to you.

First of all, as soon as you can, access your Steam account, end all Steam sessions, and change the password. This is to prevent the thief from having access to any of your private information connected with your account.

Of course, report the theft to the authorities. You can also contact Steam support and report your device stolen. They will mark the serial number of the device and will be able to flag any new accounts on it. Finally, if your insurance covers theft, don’t forget to report it to your insurance company.

That’s pretty much all you can do. Of course, we suggest always being cautious, maybe purchasing one of those backpacks with a hidden zipper and not leaving your valuables unattended in public spaces. Still, you never know when something bad will happen. So don’t be too hard on yourself if a thief uses the exact moment you didn’t pay attention. Just take a couple of deep breaths and follow the community’s advice on what to do.
