It’s always great when a game finally gets a Verified status, right? Well, shortly after Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered became Verified, some Steam Deck users expressed their disappointment and shock over this decision. Do you agree with them?
The Remastered Horizon Zero Dawn Won Over Fans and Critics
As you probably know, Horizon Zero Dawn is an exciting action RPG. It was developed by Guerrilla Games and published by SONY. The remastered version of this game dropped on October 31, 2024. In a very short time, it received praise from critics and fans alike.
This stunning game managed to score 85 on Metacritic. Vgames gave it 90/100. The review stated: “For those of you who have not experienced the game and are looking for the best way to play, there is no doubt that Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is your answer. Even if the last time you played was 7 years ago on the PS4 version, I would tell you that this is an upgrade that is worth your time and money. This is a facelift that does a favor to the original game and improves its visibility in every way, just don’t expect changes in gameplay or additional content”.
Even though it was categorized as “playable” beforehand, on November 20, it finally received the Steam Deck Verified status. Steam announced: “We’re happy to share that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is Steam Deck Verified! Explore the vast, vibrant world of Horizon with stunning new visuals on your handheld device now”.
Steam Deck Users Are Dissatisfied With the Performance of Some Verified Games
Well, this announcement wasn’t met with Steam Deck users’ approval. On the contrary, many players were quick to slam this decision, as the game was hardly even playable on Steam Deck, according to them.
Sjknight413 noted: “It definitely shouldn’t be. It’s baffling that they verified it considering how terrible the performance is. I just re-downloaded it to check and running around on a strider in a very early area causes the framerate to drop to 18-24fps with intense stuttering on the absolute lowest settings with FSR at ultra performance (which looks unbearable, by the way). That is absolutely unacceptable for a game that is supposedly verified”.
Other users pointed out that they considered the Steam Deck status to be more of a recommendation than a fact. Gex2-EnterTheGecko explained: “Their verification system needs a lot of work still. Some games are marked as unsupported and they work fine, some games are marked as supported (which is technically accurate in that the game will launch) but it runs like s**t”.
So, do you agree? We have to admit that, yes, sometimes we’ve found Verified games to run less than smoothly. However, we have no doubts that the developers will update their system at some point. Until then, we suggest you do some research before getting the game.
