The day is finally here! On October 29, after 14 long years, Red Dead Redemption became available on Steam, and Steam Deck users have only words of praise so far. Have you had an opportunity to try it out already?
Red Dead Redemption Is Now on Steam
Up until now, only the console players had the opportunity to play this game. Since the second installment has been available on Steam for a while, and the players adore it, it was only a question time when Red Dead Redemption would be added. The news of the game finally being available on Steam spread through the gaming community like wildfire.
Some very helpful players shared everything you needed to know before getting this game for yourself. One of them, darkuni, noted: “You will not need to manually install the Rockstar Launcher. Steam will be installing it WITH the game at the same time. If you have no other Rockstar games and you’ve never created a Rockstar account? That may be something you cannot escape”.
Other Steam Deck users focused on the price of Red Dead Redemption. At the moment of its release, it cost 49,99€. Some players pointed out that this price was a bit steep for a game from 2010. Milky_Finger shared some advice: “We all know it’s a great game but it’s exactly the kind of single-player port that will be 25% off by Christmas. These kinds of games don’t stay at full price for long”.
Steam Deck Users Share Their First Impressions
Even though Red Dead Redemption is pricey, some Steam Deck users decided to treat themselves (we’ll all for it!). These players shared their glowing reviews which might make you reconsider waiting for the game to be on sale.
Sjknight413 stated: “Red Dead Redemption is a great experience on the Steam Deck. After a small launcher install the game boots into a shader compilation step which is a big positive, it defaults to high settings which will get you anywhere from 60-90fps on the OLED. I left settings at high, enabled contact hardening shadows, and changed FSR3 to native AA for a very clean look”.
They added: “This is running at a locked 45fps in the introduction areas, with a fair bit of headroom. HDR also works beautifully here. All in all, this will seemingly provide the definitive experience for the original Red Dead Redemption, despite the high price”.
Another player, Illustrious-Fail5460, shared: “Red Dead Redemption runs perfectly out of the box. Not had time to test HDR, runs on all max settings 40fps solid, 70% GPU usage max, at 12W TDP, 60 is easily achievable, HOWEVER, Ultra shadows are a killer with virtually no difference, take GPU usage from 50-95% and I can’t tell a difference. The game runs super anyway, as expected for its age”.
Now, we haven’t bought the game just yet, but we are truly tempted. After all, why not? Why shouldn’t we get it? Everyone deserves a little treat from time to time. Speaking of, if you are looking for more of a budget-friendly treat, check out the Fallout Day sale, or if you are a Prime user, you can get BioShock Remastered for free. Enjoy!
