Having Trouble Running Oblivion Remastered on Your Steam Deck? Users Suggest the Best Settings and Mods

Oblivion Remastered on a Steam Deck.

Everyone was surprised when The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered dropped! Even more surprisingly, this game is Steam Deck Verified. That fact raised quite a few eyebrows. Well, the Steam Deck community is here to help you find the best settings and mods for Oblivion Remastered. This might be one of those situations where you have to kiss a couple of frogs before you find your prince, as we all have different tastes and standards, so finding a solution that works for everyone is nearly impossible.

Steam Deck Users Suggest Which Settings Are the Best

We’ve seen and tried quite a few options so far! Intuitively, we all go for all the lowest settings, right? Well, that’s what the majority of users would also suggest, although, as you will see, some managed to pull off more. Let’s go over some individual suggestions, so you can even make your own combination.

One player, handmedownshirt, suggested: “The game is more stable running at 720p in fullscreen, I was even able to turn FSR to Quality and some of the settings to medium (texture, effect etc…). FPS varies between 25-35 outdoors and 35-45 indoors (frame limit to 45 in performance profile)”.

It’s worth noting that plenty of players suggested switching the game to full screen. Another player, sgeep, noted: “I’ve done a lot of testing outside and the best settings I’ve got is: All settings set to low. XeSS set to Balanced. Fullscreen Mode (Felt like Borderless was causing problems). FPS locked to 60 (in-game and in Steam Deck’s performance settings)”.

As we mentioned, some users managed to pull off some settings on medium. Global_Earth1299 suggested: “Window Mode – Fullscreen. Display Resolution – 1152×720. Framerate Limit – 30fps. Brightness Intensity – 0. Motion Blur – Off. Screen Space Reflections – On. Custom quality settings are as follows: View Distance – Medium; Effects – Low; Foliage – Medium. I’m lazy, but set everything down below this to MEDIUM except for Hair and Cloth. Those go down to Low”.

This user also suggested: “…FSR BALANCED with Sharpness set to 25 seems to deliver the best results. XeSS Performance delivered similar performance but at a lower image quality”. However, some players suggested ditching FSR and using TSR. Sjknight413 noted: “The TSR in Oblivion actually looks quite good in motion when compared to FSR and XeSS”.

There Are a Couple of Mods the Oblivion Remastered Players Swear By

Sometimes, tweaking the settings on your Steam Deck doesn’t do the trick, and many users suggested a couple of mods for Oblivion Remastered. These should noticeably improve your experience.

First up, Ultimate Engine Tweaks. This mod was suggested by dozens of players. Reportedly, it makes the game much more palatable. The description notes: “Definitive Unreal “Engine.ini” changes with the goal to remove most stutters, improve performance and stability, decrease input latency, improve picture clarity. All with no visual loss”.

And second, quite a few players suggested disabling Lumen, which can be done easily with a mod. The mod is called LUMEN BEGONE. Its description reads: “Disable the forced UE5 LumenRT to gain additional performance on lower-end hardware and handheld devices, such as the Steam Deck”.

So, some of these are bound to make your experience better! On the other hand, if you are tired of trying to make it happen, you can always switch to Blue Prince or a game from the April Humble Choice. Have fun and enjoy.
