Have You Lost Your Steam Deck Recently? Community Gathers to Return the Device to Its Owner

Words lost and found on a Steam Deck.

One of the most beautiful things about people is their humanity. We live in quite uncertain times, with politics, wars, and terrible news affecting everyone’s lives. So, it’s especially heartwarming to see that there is some good left in the world. One person found a lost Steam Deck and decided to do their best to return it to its rightful owner. Now, sure, this gesture seems small if compared to some of the global problems, but if everyone acted like this, we’d live in a better world.

A Steam Deck User Goes on a Quest to Return a Lost Device

When you find a lost wallet, phone, or something else of value, what do you do? Especially if there is no ID? Sure, if there’s an ID, you return it to the owner, but not knowing who’s the owner complicates the process. So, what do you do? One Steam Deck user might have found a solution.

Mojomatt22 thought outside of the box and decided to ask the community in their search for the owner. Since they knew the owner had a Steam Deck, the probability was high that the owner was searching for it.

The OP noted: “Team, found a Steam Deck in an airport. Steam was logged out so I can’t message on Steam or know the person’s account name. If you lost one (Keeping all details secret so Skum don’t lie). Tell me the airport, the browser history, and the games loaded. No p*rn, I checked (This is a joke)! Be good Humans, especially during the Christmas season. Play-on”.

The Community Suggests Ways to Find the Owner

Being a helpful community, Steam Deck users worldwide joined the search for the owner of the lost device. Many users suggested creative ways to find out who the device belonged to. One of the best ideas was to contact the Steam Support with the serial number of the device.

FunMotion noted: “They will almost certainly be able to track down the address it was shipped to, they keep a record of each serial number shipped out. You are doing god’s work! I would be devastated if I lost my Deck. I wouldn’t be surprised if Valve has you send it to them and they can send it back to the original owner as well if you can’t get into contact with them yourself”.

Another user, otterpop21, added: “Try going to the desktop mode, see if there are any favorite websites bookmarked. I have one and have the password & username saved to download mods. Potentially they may have some websites or something saved in the browser settings that could point you in the right direction”.

Truth be told, stories like this one bring us back the faith in humanity. We truly wish for the owner to be reunited with their lost Steam Deck. Thankfully, Steam Decks are quite resilient, so we know this one will survive any journey. Still, if the owner doesn’t claim the lost Steam Deck, we hope they’ll treat themself with a new one. Enjoy your device and enjoy this wonderful community that you’re a part of.
