“Bethesda Giving Us the OG Experience” Steam Deck Community Is Appalled That The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered Is Verified

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered is on Steam Deck.

It all happened in a whirlwind! It’s been less than three weeks since the rumors around the Oblivion remaster started flowing. In a long-expected announcement on April 21, the devs revealed that Oblivion Remastered would drop on April 22. And, it did! This fan-favorite classic was remastered, and it’s available now. Not only that, but it was revealed that The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered was Steam Deck Verified! Even though the expectations were extremely high for a moment, the Steam Deck community once again confirmed that the Verified status didn’t mean much.

What Is The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion?

So, by now, we can safely say that this game is a classic. This open-world ARPG was launched in 2006. The developer was  Bethesda Game Studios, and it was co-published by Bethesda Softworks and 2K Games. Oblivion won GOTY in 2006, and it was a commercial success.

In the game, the player gets to explore the province of Cyrodiil, while the main goal is to stop the fanatical cult called Mythic Dawn from opening a portal to Oblivion, a demonic realm. You also get to interact with a bunch of great NPCs and complete side-quests.

Does the Remastered Version Run on a Steam Deck?

It does, yes. As we mentioned, The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered is Steam Deck Verified. However, it doesn’t run great. While your character is inside, we’d say you can expect a steady 30 FPS. However, once you go outside, well, that’s where things get stuttery.

One of our favorite Steam Deck content creators, Deck Wizard, has already tested the game. If you are wondering what the gameplay actually looks like, you can check it out below or here.

As for the players’ reviews, well, the community is divided. The majority of Steam Deck users are tired of games being Verified when they just didn’t run well. Still, the game is fun, so many users were okay with lowering their standards.

One player noted: “I’m playing it rn and it does in fact run like absolute dogs**t. Running the recommended low everything settings with FSR set to balanced. FSR in performance did nothing but make the textures look worse than they already do. NGL. At this frame rate, it really does kind of just feel like playing OG Oblivion with some QOL additions. I am having a lot of fun tho”.

Now, if you’ve played this game back in 2006, this will be a real treat for you. By today’s standards, this doesn’t run phenomenally. However, back then, the players didn’t mind. So, if you were a fan before, you’ll love it even at an unstable 30 FPS. You can get the game on Steam for a whopping €54,99.

If you are looking for a new game that is less pricey, we suggest the Blue Prince, as it’s currently on sale. Also, the April Humble Choice has some great picks at a much lower price point. Everyone deserves a treat, and you have a lot to choose from. Enjoy!
