The new patch was released on June 11. It brought many changes and a whole new map. Valorant players are particularly peeved that among the changes is also one to a Command Wheel. If you are a player who doesn’t use the mic, or you just loved the accessibility and convenience of the Command Wheel, you might have some harsh opinions on this change as well.
Some Players Riot Against the New Command Wheel
A Redditor, ASH10_000, expressed their sorrow. They said: “The com wheel was perfect. I loved effectively and efficiently expressing my tactical and social thoughts through the in-game audio, rather than exposing my awful microphone quality”. This player added: “I was a damn expert. Every sarcastic “thank you” after a phoenix flash. Every friendly “hello” in the first buy phase. And every “quiet down” to the annoying 8 year old”.
TotoMac1 noted: “It sucks because my muscle memory is already hardwired to the old menu, it’s gonna take a long time to get used to the new one”. LazinessOverload added: “They removed the most important callouts too, what’s the point of this change? Removing the site callouts was such a braindead move lol”.
Another player, suarezian, elaborated: “The new wheel is useless, there are no commands such as Quiet, Yes/No, on my way, etc. They even managed to shuffle the existing commands. Is there any way we can change the layout?”. BartOseku suggested: “The com wheel was changed in another game I played before and the community was equally pissed, in the other game they made a settings option to choose which version to use, I don’t see why Riot doesn’t do this”.
Are Other Ways of Communication in Valorant Better?
Some players aren’t affected by this change, and they took time to express that. FlakyDriver9327 reported: “Personally I’ve never used the wheel, I feel it’s more beneficial to just use your microphone”. DruffilaX agreed: “I ignore comms like that anyway. If you can‘t use a mic then I don‘t care about your opinion in the game”.
A little harsh, but Eydrien tried to explain. They said: “I’ve been playing since beta and not once I used the wheel, and I’m not particularly talkative other than core calls. Your character already says stuff automatically based on what they see to know how everything is going on other sites, and when it comes to calls to direct the team like rotating and such, not once in my time on Valorant anyone followed the guy using the wheel to say so”.
We’d say to each their own. Everyone deserves to have the experience they want. Using the Command Wheel or a mic to communicate in Valorant is a personal preference. Of course, customization of the Command Wheel would be very cool. Hopefully, the developers will hear out the fans and grant their wishes.
