Is Corner Camping in Valorant a Solid Strategy or Just a Lazy Tactic?

While playing a tactical FPS, the last thing anyone wants is for their strategy to be considered lazy. Sometimes a tactic can become just a routine, something that we do without any thinking, but then others will point out that it’s borderline “cheating”. So, do you think that corner camping is a valid approach in Valorant, or do you despise those who use it?

Corner Camping – Cheating or Not?

One player, somethingunchilled, presented the community with this problem, as they were called out by another player for corner sitting. The OP planted the Spike and hid, while their opponent was carrying the Operator. When the opponent checked the corner, they missed the shot, and the OP used the opportunity to kill them.

Obviously, OP’s opponent wasn’t happy with this turn of events and took it all out on the OP. The player that was corner sitting was left confused as to why would anyone get upset over this strategy, as in their eyes it was completely valid.

Some players pointed out that the OP should have expected that reaction. One player, lilith2k3 explained: “I think the point is that people feel being shot by a camper as trickery. Campers – in their eyes – just do nothing and are being rewarded by the game”.

Others stated that any form of camping was making the game less dynamic for other players. Good_Eye343 added: “I honestly think camping is boring. So, I get pi**ed off at how people manage to have fun sitting in one corner the whole game”.

Similarly, several players said that camping is kinda selfish, as the camper wasn’t working on the Objective. OneTrickGod explained: “Getting kills doesn’t win the game and players that only care about their KDA are frustrating to play with”.

Valorant Players Defend the Strategy

One thing is for sure – the majority of Valorant players consider corner camping to be a completely fair tactic. Especially given that the OP’s opponent was carrying a Sniper riffle, they should’ve been aware of camping as a strategy.

One player, 1tion1, pointed out: “They’re coping with being bad at clearing corners. Being unpredictable makes people mad but it’s the only way to win consistently”. If you put it like that, probably the best motto would be “Expect the unexpected”.

FieldDwarf noted: “If someone gets upset over playing a game in a perfectly reasonable, fair, or otherwise known and non-exploity way, it usually because they are too young to understand”.

Of course, aside from this strategy generally being considered fair, some players think it’s completely justified if it brings you a win. Karibik_Mike said: “I will use every tool I have to ruin my opponent’s game. Any decently ranked player will not complain about ‘camping’ or anything like that”.

If a player wants to be good in Valorant, they have to be extremely aware of their surroundings. Even if they stumble upon someone corner sitting, that shouldn’t be an excuse for a rage fit. Valorant community is known for their zero-tolerance policies towards bullies and cheating, so it isn’t surprising that they took a strong stance on this matter as well.
