How to Overcome the Paralyzing Fear of Getting Killed in Valorant

Valorant Agents Neon, Sage and Jett

Everyone has heard the saying “The bigger they come, the harder they fall”, meaning the more successful you are, the more devastating your ruin will be. Well, that can be applied to successful Valorant players who fear getting killed. Thankfully, as always, their community is there to help out and reassure the concerned players.

Valorant Player Has Trouble Facing A Fear

One devoted player took to Reddit to ask their fellow players how they dealt with this fear. DeadlockMain98 inquired: “How to get over the fear of getting killed? I was top-fragging for the last week but now I’m getting scared to take up a fight. I play Sentinel but I keep getting this feeling that I should play a different role like a Duelist or Initiator. Just to get over the fear of losing and not taking that 1v1 fight”.

Now, the Valorant community did not disappoint, at all. Players who have faced similar problems gladly shared how they managed to come out of the bind and continue their journey. The best piece of advice was to try switching up the roles, or at least Agents.

One player, bcmarss, noted: “I’m a Sentinel main and have been since I started playing. The way Sentinels engage in fights is very different from how Duelists would. I made an alt account when I was around low plat where I only unlocked and played Duelists, to help me get over my fear”.

Another helpful player, omdot20, shared their experience. They stated: “It took me a long time to get over this fear. But, for me, it came when I became invested in the game as a TEAM game. I mainly play Duelist, so when I die, I’m usually one of the first. What I look for is, did my util/entry/whatever help the team”.

This player advised: “Learn your agent. It seems like you play Sentinel because you want to be protected with your util, but perhaps try learning that a good offense can be a good defense as well. Play Skye or Phoenix. Your life is not the most important one on the team every round”.

The Valorant Community Will Help You Overcome Your Problems

Probably every Valorant player has a fear of being killed, that’s just a part of the game. However, in order to enjoy the game, all the players need to overcome this fear at some point. Sure, it can keep you on your toes, but that gets tiring really quickly. The more relaxed a player is, the better they will play.

One player, shirajragaming, noted: “I feel like this just comes from the experience, the thing is with experience you recognize more patterns and their probability. Just let go of the perfectionism and expectations, and be courageous. I say this as a gold 2 player but I believe it to be true”.

Economy_Idea4719 suggested a way that could help you anchor yourself. This player noted: “I just think about how they’re in my rank for a reason. If they’re in my lobbies, they can’t be too much better than me. There’s nothing they can do to me that I can’t do to them”.

Truth be told, that last piece of advice is what everyone needs to remember, as we often get anxious or feel like we’re out of our league. We aren’t, and neither are you. The best thing that you can do is work on your skills, be ready to react, and come up with a good strategy. Of course, always know that your team and your community will support you. Once you’ve accepted all of this, you’ll feel much more relaxed and you’ll be ready to conquer any and all fears. Enjoy the game.
