The Game Awards 2024 show was live last week. In a surprising turn of events, Astro Bot managed to snag the Game of the Year award, putting it next to the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and Overwatch. But there’s more to the event than just the award ceremony. We saw trailers for a lot of upcoming games, and one of those is The Witcher 4. For the record, The Witcher is a popular fantasy series, originally books, that turned into awesome video games, and even a television show. On the topic of video games, The Witcher 4 was one of the big surprises, and we actually got some info about the map size and the general scope of the game.
The Witcher 4 Will Be Similar in Scope and Map Size to The Witcher 3
The most important fact about The Witcher 4 is that this time the protagonist is Ciri. The first 3 titles all had Geralt as the main character, but now the time has come to pass the torch to his protege, for better or worse. Unlike other popular franchises that pass the torch to nobodies, Ciri is universally a well-liked and established character, so the devs will have an easy time with her. As for the devs, there has been an interview by Skill Up with CD Projekt Red, where they talked about the game.
During that interview, Ralph Panebianco, Lucy James, and Jake Baldino talked with Sebastian Kalemba and Gosia Mitrega, the CDPR’s Game Director and Executive Producer respectively. The talks eventually came to the topic of the scope of the game. “Are you aiming at a game that is in similar size and shape like The Witcher 3, or looking for something bitter, or for something a bit more condensed?” asked Ralph Panebianco.
“The map is more or less the same when it comes to the size. The amount of quests – more or less the same…First and foremost, we want to deliver a super compelling experience, so, again, quality over quantity…” said Sebastian Kalemba.
The Witcher 3 already has a huge map, so it is no surprise that The Witcher 4 has a similar one. It’s going to be the same world, anyway. The Witcher 4 is definitely going to be a banger and we’re already very excited about it.
