The next Helldivers 2 update is just a few days away and it looks to be the patch that many expected the Escalation of Freedom to be. This new update is going to buff many of the weapons that have nerfed in recent months and reintroduce the chaotic nature of the game. Ahead of the next update, Arrowhead Game Studios has begun to post teasers and so far they point to this being the start of Helldivers 2 regaining its player base.
Arrowhead Game Studios took to the Helldivers 2 Discord server to share a new teaser that shows what to expect from the Railgun buffs on the upcoming September 17th update saying, “The Railgun’s damage will get a boost too! Durable damage will be increased from 60 to 225 and fully overcharging damage will be increased from 150% to 250%.”
In a brief video from the developers, Arrowhead explains that the Railgun received the damage buff, revealing that it will now be effective against larger enemies. In contrast, currently, it is only effective against lighter enemies. This marks the second video in a week-long series that will tease numerous updates in the upcoming 01.001.007 patch set to be released on September 17th.
During the video, Niklas Malmborg discussed the upcoming Railgun buff saying that “we booted it up again,” further elaborating on the changes saying “The Railgun does a lot of damage to normal enemies. It didn’t do that much to very large enemies. So, we kind of quadrupled that from 60 to 225 in durable damage. Just in safe mode, it will be stronger. Normally, if you charged it up close to full you did 50% more damage, now you’ll do 150% more.” Malmborg then confirmed that despite the damage increase, the Railgun will still have the same charge-up time that it does currently.
There are still multiple buffs still be revealed ahead of the update on September 17th, but so far it is looking extremely positive and Arrowhead looks to be getting Helldivers 2 back on track. Hopefully, this leads to a major boost in players and it can begin to reclaim the player base it had just a few months ago. Recently, Helldivers 2 dropped to under 7,000 concurrent players for the first time ever, a far cry from its peak of over 458,000.
