If you are wondering if the latest Outlast title is co-op only or not, we have the answers for you. Read this article to find out if you can play The Outlast Trials solo.

The Outlast Trials is the latest installment of The Outlast series, developed and published by Red Barrels. The story is set before the events of the first two games and revolves around Reagents, human experiments that go on trials and must succeed at various tasks while evading other, more monstrous test subjects. It is designed as a predominantly cooperative survival horror game, but the fans are wondering if solo play is available. Let’s see about that. Read on to see if you can play The Outlast Trials solo or not.

Can You Play The Outlast Trials Solo?

Yes, you can. The Outlast Trials is designed as a co-op survival game, but nothing is stopping you from going on your own. In fact, with the full 1.0 release of the game, the difficulty for solo play has been adjusted and is now slightly easier than it was in Early Access.

Players claim that playing solo and in duo is almost the same, objective-wise. Only when the third and fourth player is added do things get more complicated. On one hand, playing Trials solo can be easier, because you do not have to worry about your team members causing trouble. Especially if you are into stealth-based games. On the other hand, if you are alone, there is no one to draw the enemy’s attention, allowing you safe passage forward. Each mode has its ups and downs.

Differences When Playing Solo

Naturally, playing solo is not the same as when playing with a group, and there are some in-game differences. First of all, there are no Syringes in the game, as they can only be used to revive other players. They are replaced with Respawn Pills, which increase the total number of respawns you are given for that Trial. You can find them in emergency glass boxes, just like Syringes.

Lastly, when playing solo, you’ll be unable to access some areas as they can only be accessed by boosting other players up, or by breaking down double doors, which requires at least two players. But, they are not critical for the trial completion, they are just another way for you to move about.
