Will The First Descendant Get Bloodier? Devs Give an Official Statement

As we all know, TFD is a game where you fight various alien enemies using guns and special Arche abilities. With so many firearms at your disposal, not to mention flashy abilities, many players noticed that the game is a bit way too clean. You’d expect, with all that rampant violence, the game would be a bit grittier. The First Descendant has a Mature 17+ rating, which “may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language”. Sure, TFD is pretty light on all of these (with the not-so-modest skins being the biggest culprit here), but absolutely lacking in blood and gore. With all the changes and the regular updates, players are wondering will The First Descendant get bloodier and grittier, and the Devs answered.

The First Descendant Devs Finally Gave an Answer to a Bloody Question

In its current state, The First Descendant is pretty light on the gore and violence. You shoot down a bunch of Vulgus, they usually fall and disappear in a matter of seconds. The “worst” (or best) part is when you stun some of the Colossi, and it looks like they are bleeding. So, wanting to know more, one fan asked the devs in the official Discord Q&A: “Is there plans to add in game blood/gore?” The devs gave a short and succinct reply.

We currently have no plans to add blood/gore effects to the game.

Even though TFD has the necessary rating to add blood and gore, it seems it is not in the devs’ interest to do anything along those lines. A lot of Eastern MMOs tend to avoid getting really dark and bloody and TFD follows suit. In fact, there is a law in China that strictly prohibits any blood to be shown in video games (or other media). Nexon has a considerable playerbase in China so it is a smart move not to risk it by adding blood or anything similar.

Honestly, it is purely a cosmetic feature, so the presence or absence of blood does not have an impact on the game. And if you think about it, there is no place for blood and gore in the general aesthetics of TFD. The game is more of a comic-book-hero style, than a grimdark one. There are enough gritty games out there for everyone.
