TFD is in a period of big changes and improvements. They recently had a Season 2 announcement video where they talked about all the new features and changes that are on the way. Come December, we will get pets (or Fellows, as is their in-game title), a whole bunch of new skins, new dungeons, and various other improvements. This is a great time to be a TFD fan. And, between all those improvements, some fans started wondering: will Nexon make a Steam Deck port, to optimize The First Descendant for Valve’s handheld gaming PC? Nexon gave an official answer on that topic.
Is The First Descendant Getting a Steam Deck Port?
As it stands now, TFD is playable on all last-gen and current-gen consoles. That means PS4, PS5 (it is even PS5 Pro Enhanced), Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Windows). You can even play it via GeForce Now.
However, it is not Steam Deck optimized, so the fans wondered if Nexon would do something about it, especially now with all the improvements and updates on the way. ”Hey devs are there any plans to further optimize the game for steam deck? There a current issue where you get booted back to the home screen do the game not being stable.” asked Mastergaming#5045. On November 19, TFD_PD_Lee answered:
“The Steam Deck is not officially supported at the moment, and there are currently no plans to include it. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
This is quite unfortunate news for all Steam Deck users. Sure, The First Descendant is playable on Steam Deck in a way, but it is not fully supported. And, as we just saw, getting it Steam Deck optimized is not planned for the near future. With a lot of modern games getting optimized for Steam Deck, it is a real wonder that Nexon chose to go along this route. Maybe it will change in the future.
