Contrary to Body Skins, Head Skins in TFD are a bit of a hit-and-miss. Don’t get me wrong, the Head Skins are all pretty good, but they usually miss that “something”, to make them perfect. The helmets that Ultimate Descendants usually have are the biggest offenders here. The design team did a great job with the faces of their characters, so it is a shame to hide them behind a mask (with some exceptions, of course). When Ultimate Freyna was released, Nexon added a second Ultimate Skin, with a bare head, albeit with a mask to cover the mouth. While the detail is quite cool, we are all basically in love with Freyna and would rather have the option without the mask. Nexon caught up on this and showed that Ultimate Freyna head skin without the mask is in the works for The First Descendant. This leaves the players wondering: will we get customizable skins in the future?
Ultimate Freyna Without the Mask Makes The First Descendant Players Go Wild
If you visited TFD’s Discord channel recently, you must have noticed that there is an official live Q&A with the devs. Players ask all sorts of questions, and the devs do their best to answer them. That is how we found out that an announcement for the next Ultimate Descendant is close. Or that Advanced Shape Stabilizers are on the way.
After all the questions, one fan named 캐깅이 asked whether we would get the option to remove the helmets from Ultimate Descendants. “It’s not an urgent issue, but could you make the head skin’s mask detachable or add a slot for head decorations to separate the head skin and the mask? I like the Ultimate Bunny and Ultimate Freya bundle skin hair, but I also want to see the bare face” (Translated from Korean with the help of our AI Overlords).
As an answer, one of the devs, who goes by the name TFD_PD_Lee on Discord, had this to say:
The feature you mentioned requires quite a bit of consideration. For now, how about an Ultimate Freyna’s head skin without a mask?
Unsurprisingly, the players went off the rails. You can see a ton of comments along the lines of “Yeeeeessss”, “Nice”, and “I’ll take it!”. The most creative one goes to Violent-fog, who said: “Yaaay now my Freyna doesn’t look like Hannibal from [Silence of the Lambs].”
Will We Get Customizable Head Skins in the Future? Players Speculate
All of this has started a discussion on whether this means that customizable Head Skins are on the way. A lot of players, unsurprisingly, are all about the idea of removing the helmets and customizing the heads. “They need to just let swap face accessories and hair,“ said yato08, and “Every descendant should have a “mask off” option toggle. #freeTheFaces” added CataphractBunny.
Others are more skeptical, expecting that maskless/helmetless versions will be behind a paywall. “There will certainly be some cost to removing masks.” said Feelicia_Flawless, and “Charging us to delete an asset on the character model is insane. I literally bought the battle pass for Sharen w/o mask. I’m sure it takes a minuscule amount of effort to actually make the “no mask” options“ added Fantasy_Line.
As for our opinion, we are sure it takes a bit more effort to make maskless/helmetless versions than just toggling them on/off. And adding the ability to fully customize your Descendants’ heads may be too much at the moment. As we saw, the devs were pretty vague on that subject, only saying: “The feature you mentioned requires quite a bit of consideration”. We think that, if we do get them, all the new versions without the masks will be sold as separate skins. People are willing to buy them, and they’ll earn some revenue for the troubles. Not the most moral decision, but this is business.
