Tired of a Certain Mechanic, The First Descendant Players Ask the Devs for a Change

The First Descendant is a looter-shooter, and let’s face it, grinding is an integral part of the game. It all boils down to repeating missions until you get lucky and finally get the Descendant and weapon parts that you’re looking for. So, love it or hate it, you will be doing the same missions multiple times to get the resources and materials that you want. Since you’re most likely a fan of TFD, grinding is probably not that big of a deal for you. But, this one particular aspect of the game that you have to grind for is not to everyone’s taste.

Grinding For Levels is Grinding Our Gears

Re-leveling is more of a chore than anything else. For context, when you use a Crystallization Catalyst on your weapon or Descendant, you will improve one of your Module Sockets but that will also roll back your Descendant/Weapon to Level 1. When you think about it, there is not much rhyme or reason to it. It is just a chore to level up again. Of course, there are ways you can level up fast, but it can get boring and repetitive pretty quick

One player, named MrSnufelupagus on Reddit, started a thread where they expressed their frustration with this aspect of the game. They start with “I can farm outposts all day long. I can farm for shards all day long. I can farm void fragments all day long…” but end with “Leveling the same character and weapons over and over again has become unbearable for me. This aspect of the game is having me consider giving it up. I can’t do it anymore, it’s horrendous!”

We Could Do Very Well Without It

The OP is not the only one. A lot of players agree with releveling being a chore and nothing else. User Noxilar offered: “True, that’s way too annoying, they should buff some exp after every catalyst applied”. User Anoumoge-Railim added: “Like leveling up takes an HOUR of solid xp grinding and imagine having to do it 7-8 times to fully minmax a character/weapon. They should honestly give a substantial XP boost when you catalyze a slot.” and they both make a good point. If Nexon doesn’t want to remove the releveling mechanic, they can at least give an XP boost or something similar.

Other players are on the verge of quitting over this, like Beast_Shark18 saying: “This will be the reason behind me quitting this game soon”. User vjngm1346 adds: “OMG same, well not quite quitting yet, but as for weapons… the ways to level those up are so boring”.

Some are even holding off using the Catalyst due to the sheer unwillingness to go over weapon leveling all over again. A player named meaty118 stated: “Yeah I fully maxed my Nazeistras fully cata’d 4/4 copies…BUT I have 0 desire to do that again for any descendants or weapons. I’m personally holding off playing until the big season one update hoping for meaningful changes to xp/modding.” User mikeyeli added: “I don’t think I’m doing it again tbh, I finished getting my 5 copies of Peacemaker yesterday, I thought about building it but just don’t have the will to do it…” and we totally get it.

When you’re grinding for materials, you at least get a sense of progress. When you use a Catalyst to improve a weapon of your Descendant, you just get a “power level decrease”, and now you have to work all over again to get back to where you were in the first place. We sincerely hope that Nexon will do something about this. We understand the idea behind it, but in practice getting back to Level 1 proved to be a bit too much.
