The Target Reward system, or “pity system” as gamers commonly call it, was introduced to The First Descendant on December 5, but it turned out to be not what the community was hoping for.
On December 5, we got the long-awaited Season 2 update. It introduced new characters, Fellows, and Ultimate Sharen, added a bunch of events, and more. One of the most anticipated changes was the addition of the pity system, or the Target Reward system as it is called in the game. It was supposed to make our farming a bit easier, allowing us to “target” specific items and guarantee the drops after a bunch of failures. We all know how frustrating farming can be, so the players were looking forward to it. But, as it turns out, it is not as useful as we hoped.
Nexon Releases Step-By-Step Instructions For the Target Reward System
On December 13, Nexon revealed detailed instructions for the new Target Reward system. Many players had issues finding it in the first place, so the devs made everything easier to find and work with and even posted a step-by-step guide on how to use it.
“This is a system where a certain meter accumulates if you don’t get the target item after registering a Target Reward, and when the meter reaches 100%, you automatically obtain the target item.
You can register the Target Reward on the Acquisition Info (F) screen.
Only Amorphous Materials and Core Materials can be registered as Target Reward.
<Only items marked with the corresponding icon in the Detailed List of the Acquisition Info (F) can be set as Target Reward Items.>
You can register up to 4 items as Target Reward, and you can unregister items from the Target Reward List.
Removing Target Reward will reset the accumulated meter.
You can view your registered Target Reward items and meter in Access Info > Target Reward List (G).”
What Does it Mean?
Well, as it turns out, you can only target items that drop as a mission reward, ie, some Amorphous materials and some Blueprints. Sure, we all had trouble with the infamous 20% drop rates in missions, so this will definitely help in that department, but what the majority was hoping for is that we could target the items that can be found in Amorphous Materials, not the AMs themselves. We all have tons of those, what’s inside them is the issue.
As DanteAmerigo said: “Please for the love of god add the ability to target rewards inside of amorphous materials…Please do something about this…” and blck_lght added: “Great, now apply this to *everything*, including Descendant parts”
Others noticed that the Target Reward system does not even work on Modules. That’s right, you can target red Modules, even those that can drop as a mission reward.
As it stands, the TFD pity system is far from what the players were hoping for. The items the community actually wants to grind towards are unavailable to be selected, so The First Descendant players might as well go on without the Target Reward system. We truly hope Nexon expands the list of items that can be targeted, regardless of the number of runs needed. People love to see progress, however small it may be.
