The latest update for The First Descendant is widely praised. We got Luna, Ultimate Valby, some sweet summer skins, new weapons, bug fixes, and lastly, a new Colossus called Gluttony. This new Void Battle took everyone by surprise with its difficulty. It was expected to be a tough fight (it is a new boss, after all), but it proved to be more than that. The players claimed that the Gluttony Void Battle was too hard and quite boring. Recently there was a glitch with Kyle that allowed players to almost one-shot it, which brought its own set of issues. Now with the glitch fixed, the players are left to deal with Gluttony in the usual manner, and no one is happy about it.
Gluttony is Considered One of the Worst MMO Fights In Recent History
The latest Colossus has some unpopular mechanics. First of all, there are floating balls (we all love those) that you have to worry about and play around, and secondly, everyone’s favorite, Gluttony has an instant-wipe mechanic. No wonder it’s so disliked.
One player, named BerryAllensMom, started a Reddit thread expressing his annoyance with this, arguably “the worst MMO fight of the last decade”. “Pink Orbs – remember these on Obstructor? They were really bad. Now…you need to time them. Is this ever explained? Nope. Good luck…The Ball Mechanic in general is dreadful, not fun, and a nightmare to deal with when you have to manage the fact that the boss just one shots you.”
They proceed to comment on how the game needs better communication mechanics, so players can coordinate when fighting bosses as tough as Gluttony, without having to rely on third-party sources (like Discord). That is especially true for console players.
The Newest Colossus Is Hated By Practically Everyone
As you may have guessed, and experienced on your own skin, most of the community agrees. ANort admitted: “It’s one of the worst-designed boss fights I’ve ever personally seen in a videogame in over 25 years of gaming. And, after managing to beat it once, I hope I never have to step foot in it ever again”.
Another player, Fankine, shared that their main gripe with this boss was the fact that he could one-shot you even if you had a high defensive. This player said: “The one-shots are even worse because the mechanic forces you to split your group wide and you’ll spend most of the time just running across the whole map just to revive people”.
Obviously, some community members wholeheartedly disagree. One of them, elfyyyyyy, noted: “Boss is not hard. Hard is having to play with people who don’t build their characters properly. I’m not a fan of the mechanics either but in Gluttony’s case it’s straight up 80% the players’ fault for not building/playing correctly”.
While both sides are correct in a way, we’d argue that the devs job is to make a fight (in this case) more engaging. Difficult doesn’t have to mean annoying. But at least a little more clarity with Colossi and their mechanics would be a good first step.
